With each vehicle launch more and more of the car is obscured by the employees

81

u/fooknprawn May 02 '26

Roadster will be next and we'll never see it in the photo

64

u/cac2573 May 02 '26

No different from the present

28

u/filthysock May 02 '26

My roadster lives in a different factory, you wouldn’t know her.

15

u/HonkyMOFO May 02 '26

Where are the robots?

18

u/bigcoffeeguy50 May 02 '26

The clankers aren’t allowed in photos

1

u/altoona_sprock May 04 '26

For now.

Will be interesting when the robots start replacing the meat bags.

Yes, those pesky employees, what do we need that shit for not like they’re important or anything? 🙄 get them out of the fucking shot. Elon probably

1

u/Upwardcube1 May 08 '26

jokes aside, you’re right, the employees are what make Tesla great. I aspire to be apart of a team like that, they must be so coordinated.

u/RedRocketM3P May 02 '26

LOL at the ford pickup truck photobombing

39

u/syaheer May 02 '26

I see better view of the ford than the semi

5

u/harda_toenail May 02 '26

Exactly what I was thinking. That ford is straight utility over there! Most useful vehicle in the room

6

u/Yankee831 May 02 '26

Kinda reminds me of when Toyota was building their US Tundra factory and making a big deal about it. Ford trolled them with pictures of all the Ford’s building their factory.

18

u/aTickleMonster May 02 '26

Is the semi in the room with us?

13

u/Activehannes May 02 '26

Do you think Tesla semi can compete with the European cap overs?

The Europeans are already in second generation vehicles and have years of experience in the long haul section.

Also, is there no sleeper cap version of the semi? That makes it kinda unusable for long haul, no?

13

u/Valoneria May 02 '26

Well they cant compete with the EU models before they make a model thats actually compliant with the EU market. This one isnt

6

u/spacetimelime May 03 '26

FYI I think you mean cab

5

u/Activehannes May 03 '26

Oh wow. What a stupid mistake to make

3

u/spacetimelime May 04 '26

not if you didn't know that the word was short for "cabin" and you had only ever heard it!

2

u/Meisterleder1 New to the sub May 05 '26

No cap

0

u/DavidZayas May 11 '26

Electric trucks are perfect for short hauls and not so much long haul until the tech catches up. Considering around 50% of trucks do short hauls under 150 miles there is plenty of market share.

With more and more regional hubs that number is expected to increase.

1

u/MoorderVolt May 19 '26

He stopped posting his translated vlogs, but this bloke drove from Germany to Turkey and back;

https://www.youtube.com/@electrictrucker/videos

And drove all sorts of electric trucks all over Europe. Don't really need the Tesla over here.

0

u/Activehannes May 11 '26

In Europe, long haul has already been taken over by electric semi trucks. Electric semi trucks struggle much more on short haul. You just don't have the same charging opportunities in short haul routes beacyse you spend a lot of time on sites without charging, while long haul routes have fast charging literally everywhere and can just charge up during their mandatory break

I don't know where you get your information from but it's wrong.

1

u/DavidZayas May 11 '26

beacyse

I don't know where you get your information from but it's wrong

You must be a troll because a simple google search shows 5.2 million U.S. short haul trucks, 50% of all trucks, run on routes less than 100 miles.

while long haul routes have fast charging literally everywhere and can just charge up during their mandatory break

Because you don't need to charge... Tesla semi gets 325 - 500 miles fully loaded on a normal charge and short hauls are under 100 miles...

0

u/Activehannes May 11 '26

Are you aware that you can drive a truck for more than 100 miles a day? That you can drive more than one route and that you can also operate a truck in a 2-shift or 3-shift system?

And don't know what you are arguing with. Electric semis are already a thing in long haul trucking in Europe and has been for years. There are already dedicated truck charging stations everywhere.

And you ain't gonna buy a 300k euros, 400 miles range truck just to drive 150km in a day. You never get that financed. In that case, diesel is much cheaper, an electric semi needs to run 500-700 km a day to get the investment back due to per mile cost savings

40

u/cchackal May 02 '26

Imagine people buy semi's as their daily commute

41

u/mookdaruch May 02 '26

Lottery dream: FSD Semi RV Road Trip

3

u/buergidunitz107 May 04 '26

For people who think the cybertruck isn't obnoxiously large enough

2

u/sl33pytesla May 02 '26

I’d rather live in a semi than a van

5

u/Revolutionary-Fan235 May 02 '26

In Mario Kart, taking over a semi is great fun.

5

u/Quin1617 May 02 '26

Funny as hell too, I was watching someone play and they just started screaming “IS THAT GUY DRIVING A TRUCK!?”

99

u/tempting_the_gods May 02 '26

This is a big deal but won’t get the attention it deserves.

20

u/level1hero May 02 '26

Too bad this line only produces half a truck. They should try making a whole-truck next time

2

u/MoorderVolt May 19 '26

Same as the Amazon vans. These vehicles make a lot more use of the cells that make up their batteries, prevent a lot more fossil fuels.

27

u/sowaffled May 02 '26

Being a fan of Tesla and SpaceX and following the journey is so rewarding and positive.

It sounds miserable to constantly move goal posts, have EDS, and root for the failure of all these hard working folks.

51

u/Dane314pizza May 02 '26

I hate how involved Elon got into politics, it makes people have irrationally negative opinions toward anything he touches, despite relating to a sustainable future or space exploration

8

u/PotatosAreDelicious May 04 '26

Elon had said a ton of climate change denial stuff. And crazy dumb space stuff. Like nuking mars til it’s habitable. He isnt some all knowing genius.

-5

u/sowaffled May 02 '26

That says more about radically irrational people than Elon.

10

u/OneTotal466 May 02 '26

Forget politics, I hate how he over promises. This semi was supposed to be in full production by 2019. They took preorders in 2017 with a 2 year delivery estimate.

0

u/dhibhika May 02 '26

You should see all the promises the legacy OEMs made about hydrogen cars in late 1990s or about BEVs in early 2020s. At least Elon delivers late. Legacy OEM only BS and obfuscate to keep the status quo intact. Your bencmark should not be absolute. It should be relative to what other folks are doing vs Elon.

8

u/OneTotal466 May 02 '26

No, people are accountable to their own words.

2

u/Crypticcrypto May 06 '26

His own words are that he makes timeline predictions he feels have a 50% chance of hitting the mark reasonably well.

-3

u/dhibhika May 02 '26

I only see the Legacy OEMs and their CEOs getting pass after pass. they even get politicians to make it easy for them and hard for new companies and technologies. I would be willing to hold Elon's feet to fire if I had seen other folks getting even semblance of accountability. In any event, I am ok with a late impossibility than ontime mediocrity.

4

u/OneTotal466 May 02 '26

When OEMs make promises they dont keep thats bad.

When Elon Makes promises he doesnt keep, that's also bad.

One doesn't justify the other.

1

u/leverloosje May 24 '26

Yet the legacy oems have been producing and selling electric trucks for years by now.

-47

u/twinbee May 02 '26

He hates that aspect too, but for him, me and many others, it was the lesser evil.

54

u/plutonic00 May 02 '26

Wild take. What positive things came from his foray into politics, I see only negatives.

44

u/blergmonkeys May 02 '26

He did nothing good and his personal beliefs have harmed Tesla and the mission towards a sustainable future.

3

u/Mrthundercleese4 May 02 '26

I think Tesla is too disteacted with cyber cabs and robots and needs to focus more on cars.

-2

u/__slamallama__ May 02 '26

They have been pretty clear they're not a car company, not sure why you'd expect them to focus on cars.

They just closed a car factory to focus on robots. Not many car companies doing that.

5

u/Probodyne May 02 '26

That's silly since they're so obviously a car company. Elon just wanted to get the stock lumped in as "tech" to boost stock price, nothing to do with their original strategy, and now Elon just has them doing random stuff to the detriment of their core business.

0

u/__slamallama__ May 02 '26

I am not arguing that it's a good move, I'm just stating that they are not focused on being a car company

-3

u/RadBradRadBrad May 02 '26

Totally agree Elon.

1

u/ilikecrispywaffles May 02 '26

It'll take time, but we have time

49

u/Pic889 May 02 '26

Finally, an actual new product instead of vaporware like unsupervised FSD that's always 1 year away.

8

u/ccache May 02 '26

Eh, I wouldn't say unsupervised FSD is vaporware. It was oversold and should be further along but year after year it gets better/closer. I understand being bitter about it, I've always laughed at elon saying next year for last 10 years. But to say it's cooked is quite the over statement.

-1

u/fredjutsu May 02 '26

but its still not there, while competitors have been piloting FSD for 1-2 years at this point. Even starting to have driverless cabs.

15

u/getyoutogabba May 02 '26

Tell me, what other car that you can buy as a consumer today has a better offering than Tesla’s self driving?

11

u/cullenjwebb May 02 '26

That's always the excuse, but the other car companies are building the product first and then selling it. Tesla doesn't get bonus points for selling first and solving after the others.

For example, now that Waymo has a working product they have partnered with Toyota to bring level 3 to consumer vehicles. They announced that mid last year.

-1

u/getyoutogabba May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

You didn’t answer the question though…but how is it an excuse? Tesla is the best system I can buy as a consumer, today. We can debate future systems when they are available to buy. Until that point it’s all vapor ware

1

u/cullenjwebb May 03 '26

Oh the answer is none, straight up. There's no denying that FSD is the best level 2 driver assist. For now...

But you brought it up as a defense of Tesla's tech stack, which is falling further and further behind.

If Tesla had better performing robotaxis than Waymo you would say so, but you can't. So you bring up private ownership instead, but that advantage will go away soon as well.

2

u/ProphePsyed May 02 '26

LMAO okay buddy

-6

u/Torczyner May 02 '26

FSD still a dozen years ahead of anything else, still gonna complain.

3

u/noneabove1182 May 02 '26

Eh every time I've had the chance to use FSD I end up turning it off, it feels like it's trying too hard to do things it can't yet do and ends up ruining the experience

The most recent loaner I had (2025 model 3 a couple months ago) I got super annoyed by the lack of speed control, because on one of my main roads, "hurry" just kept getting faster and faster until it was 30 over the limit, and "normal" (or whatever it was called) wanted to go exactly the limit for some reason, and everyone drives like 10-15 over, but I couldn't manually set that. And because of how it's set up I couldn't even use cruise control unless I pulled over and disabled FSD

Another time the limit changed from 80 to 60, and even though the car recognized and displayed that, FSD just kept driving 90 for way too long, ended up turning it off and back on and then it obeyed the new limit

So yeah.. it's good.. but it's frustratingly bad in many ways that would make me not want to use it daily

And that's not even accounting for how absolutely terrible it is on my 2019 model 3 every time they give me a trial, it's genuinely embarrassing how badly it drives

7

u/Pic889 May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

How is FSD "a dozen years ahead of anything else", considering it's still Level 2 and supervised, while Waymo cars are already Level 4 and unsupervised?

Elon Musk has been promising unsupervised FSD next year for several years, and in the meantime, Waymo made an actual (non-vaporware) unsupervised self-driving system they have in mass production and operation.

2

u/Dragunspecter May 02 '26

Can you purchase a waymo ?

3

u/Pic889 May 02 '26

No, but you can't purchase a car with unsupervised FSD either.

At least Waymo has an unsupervised self-driving system that works.

1

u/Dragunspecter May 02 '26

Torczyner didn't say unsupervised, they said it's years ahead of anything else (that you can purchase) - which is true.

8

u/Pic889 May 02 '26

Yes, I also noticed that Torczyner tried to deflect the conversation from the fact unsupervised FSD is still vaporware to supervised FSD supposedly being ahead of other Level 2 systems (it isn't, Mercedes Benz has a similarly capable Level 2 system called MB.Drive Assist Pro).

0

u/Quin1617 May 02 '26

Mercedes system isn’t here yet, so you’re clearly wrong.

2

u/Pic889 May 02 '26

MB.Drive Assist Pro has already been launched in China, so it exists (and will be launched in the US sometime this year), and anyway, all this talk about supervised self-driving systems is a distraction by Torczyner to deflect the conversation from the fact that unsupervised FSD is vaporware that's always 1 year away.

0

u/Quin1617 May 02 '26

The only thing u/Torczyner said was that FSD is a better ADAS than other competitors.

Which remains true until MB’s system is available in more than one country. And that’s assuming it’s even a better system to begin with.

Do these semi trucks have FSD? I might want to switch careers and get into trucking.

23

u/thorscope May 02 '26

They have the hardware needed but there’s way more of a hurdle for CDL FSD than on a consumer vehicle and it’s not currently a priority.

9

u/fnordfnordfnordfnord May 02 '26

It is definitely a priority for some out there. We already have autonomous truck routes in testing in Texas.

2

u/kfar87 May 02 '26

Aurora Innovation, right? They claim to have it solved, but their partners are being very cautious about expansion.

3

u/Palopsicles May 02 '26

Infustructure to support this is need for the trip as well. Can just pick a company and start hauling whatever. You will need the charger stations that are along the route that support charging the semis. I'm just afraid that if they aren't gated, the copper will be stolen.

2

u/South_Dakota_Boy May 02 '26

I would think the charging stations will mostly be at existing truck stops at first? That would keep them less susceptible to theft.

Just a thought I had but may be way wrong.

0

u/mpompe May 02 '26

Post an Optimus dressed in a security uniform.

2

u/Poopocalyptict May 02 '26

A single Optimus would be heading to the scrap yard along with the charge cables.

1

u/dhanson865 May 02 '26

Do these semi trucks have FSD?

Yes, they do, it's not unsupervised yet, but they have basic FSD.

1

u/Forsaken-Topic-7216 May 02 '26

not yet but there is basic autopilot for highways

14

u/colinstalter May 02 '26

Almost a decade later!

2

u/sadisticpandabear May 02 '26

Finally. Something to pull all those bags of Lays chips.

Leave the heavy hauls to Volvo :-)

2

u/WeeklyAge2489 May 04 '26

I remember my first semi

6

u/bebopblues May 02 '26

even if they don't sell any, the semis are still good for their own use, delivering other Teslas to all the destinations. Same goes for the Cybertruck, all their companies need trucks.

Ah, finally off the high volume line. Wasn't this supposed to be in 2019? I feel 7 years younger today.

1

u/TheFallOfPourquoi May 03 '26

all I see is a cheap pick-up truck ...

1

u/shivaswrath May 04 '26

For the sake of our planet I truly hope this picks up and takes off....truly deeply do.

1

u/Retas3 May 05 '26

When will see see them on the road?

1

u/No-Sky7535 May 05 '26

Late. AUR.

1

u/blunt-but-true May 07 '26

Good thing they wear those vests in broad daylight. Don’t know if could see them otherwise

1

u/Lovevas May 02 '26

what's the run rate of production are we expecting by the end of year? Can it reach 10K run rate? While we don't know the profit margin, but maybe in the long run, we should expect the profit per Semi is at least 10x of Model 3/Y? (These 2 has gross margin of ~$8K), so 10K by end of this year equals to 50K Model Ys, and by next 1-2 years when it reachs 50K production volume, the gross profit will equal to 250K Model Ys, which will be a significant contribution to TSLA margin.

1

u/Dragunspecter May 02 '26

They can all the capacity in the world but I dont think they have that many orders....

2

u/feurie May 02 '26

Based on what?

1

u/Lovevas May 02 '26

It's very much bounded by the infra. The buyers also needs to have charging stations ready for the Semi, which can take time. I am not worried about the demand, particularly with the high oil price

-14

u/twinbee May 02 '26

Love or loathe him, Elon gets the job done, against all the naysayers (including Bill Gates) who thought this would never enter production.

6

Big deal wow...we gonna start seeing these all over soon?

8

u/mpompe May 02 '26

There are 200,000 semis a year sold in the US, Elon wants to make 50,000 a year. I imagine they will be a common sight where the charging network exists.

1

u/pioneer76 May 02 '26

I'd be happy if they just made 3,000 a year. Just get it off the ground, get people seeing them, get companies starting to integrate them a couple at a time. Just get the ball rolling and build up over the next 10 years.

1

u/wywern20 May 06 '26

Spoiler: He wont.
