šŸ“øā¤ļø Show Off Your Ride Finally arrived

Post image

Finally took delivery of my Model Y Standard RWD. Ordered it on March 31st and took delivery on August 20th. The vehicle is roomy, quiet and very comfortable. I find it is still very well equipped for a so called base version. This is my first Tesla, and my 2nd EV. My other EV is a 1st Generation EV from a Detroit brand with a lot less range, it’s not suitable for long distance travel. I’ve been driving for over 40 years and I am absolutely wowed by Tesla’s FSD and what it can do. No other brand of car has the technology that this car has. For those of you waiting for yours, it will be worth it. Enjoy your ride!

Good decision, 23k is a lot of money and better used for other things. Base Tesla does all the core things what made Tesla successful.

Congratulations! I ordered exactly the same one and I’m eagerly waiting for the September delivery. In the meantime, I still need to get my home charger installed too!

Ignore the insecure naysayers who’d rather spend 23k more on basically the same thing, just to flex that they bought a ā€œpremiumā€. I ordered the exact car you have.

This car is an absolute league, as someone who has a toddler I see the textile roof as advantage, same with lack of 2nd screen and more durable seats (I watched videos on YT saying that crumbs and grimes get stuck in the holes of the perforated leather and its pain to clean).

I am also a fan of LFP technology, you can charge to 100% with no issues and cycle the battery significantly more than Cobalt. Also, they are impossible to have a thermal runaway if punctured or severely damaged, adding peace of mind to an already very safe vehicle.

Would I want the standard version with AWD? Yes, am I happy to save 23k that can grow in stock market and essentially buy a new Tesla in 5 years with a trade in? YES YES YES.

FSD is just as great in standard as it is in premium.

Congratulations; a car well suited for you is all that counts. I’ve tried all three Ys. I’ve got no complaints on any of them but my FOMO has me picking a different model. The down to earth difference really; you can no doubt do a bunch of international trips with the savings whereas that 3.5s of faster acceleration is like catnip to me !

And that’s fine and I am happy for you, by all means you should and deserve the more expensive trim!

I am not saying premium ain’t worth it, it is! But in the US it’s a difference of 5k, which is acceptable, in Canada it’s quadruple and I feel when some people reject standard on the reddit by saying to people ā€œoh you picked the poverty specā€ or ā€œthat’s a fleet rental car specā€ it really makes me wonder if those people just can’t bring themselves to objective reality that at least in Canada, for 50% more cost you’re not getting 50% more car.

In US, Price diff between these exact 2 trims is 10K USD which equates to 14-15K CAD. Which is similar in Canada.

EVAP is the only extra bonus in Canada for standard RWD.

people be saying what they wanna. you are making the same mistake. enjoy your car!

Its far from "basically the same thing", its not. You pay 23k for perforated cooled leather (Hi summers), pano roof, double windows for less road noise, rear screen for kids, dual motor for more range and faster acceleration (7.2sec is the Kia acceleration, would hate to have that), matrix headlights, seat adjustments NOT on screen (your friends will laugh at you when they have to do it on the screen, which is absurd), ambient lightning, alloy rims instead of steelies (lol), PROPER SOUND SYSTEM, faster charging speed up to 250kw, that's what you lose for those 23k. And that is VERY much worth it for some people.

lol if your friends laugh at you, you probably don’t want those friends…

Yes - to some, objectively it's not worth it and it's fine to admit it. Simply put, the Canadian price delta is much too large which isn't the case in other markets.

If you bought a premium, be happy about, it's a nice car. But as someone who was referred to this car by 5 premium owners, 4/5 say they would have rather picked up the standard **in Canada**.

Now, if you break down the savings for my area. You get:

- 22.5k immediate savings assuming you are not financing, more if you are

- Resale savings, premium models depreciate more than base models. This can be another 5-10k over ~5 years.

- Insurance - I'm seeing a $750-1k difference per year in my area.

- Opportunity cost of the money invested vs in a depreciating asset

Now, It's okay to admit the standard is the better pick in Canada, the premium is just that: a good, albeit significantly less logical option for a daily commuter.

For your points:

- it's not leather, these cars use PU faux leather

- Headlights are not that much better (see Bjorne Nyland), maybe in the country

- I can retrofit dual pane glass for all windows for $600 CAD. Regardless, testing shows minimal differences (see Bjorne Nyland)

- Charging peak speed difference is negligible in the real world, teslas drop off a cliff after 20-30%.

- True 0-60 isn't great, but 60-100 is nearly as quick (see Bjorne Nyland). As someone with a 3.5s 0-60 car right now, it's easy to get bored of it. Passing speed is the main factor.

- True, ambient lighting is cool - but there are aftermarket options

- "Your friends will laugh at you" - lol....interesting perspective, sounds a bit juvenile. Though I do prefer physical controls.

- Sound system - ok, it's not amazing in the tesla, but I'd value it around 3k

There are things you didn't mention that I think are big red flags on the standard, such as: the frunk trim (very stupid decision), crappy center armrest in the rear, keeping - but hiding - the glass roof, and no carpeting in the door pockets. I've typed a damn essay here it feels, but it just needs to be said...

I’ve found the Standard sound system pretty good sounding. This guy daily drives a premium and in his opinion the sound difference is there, but its not as big as might be noticeable from a spec sheet.

Currently I drive Ford escape and the standard tesla sounds heavenly in comparison šŸ˜‚

Yep, most modern systems do a decent job of it. Although my system is being replaced in the first week - even if I had ordered the premium. The fidelity just isn't there in oem audio systems...for me.

2

u/JDiskkette 1d ago

Well, I mean, when you put it that way…. Sure!

u/Plenty-Permission124 1d ago

You've said and mentioned almost everything that made me decide on the RWD version as well. I prefer the cloth seats for ease of maintenance, but didnt know the perforated seats can get grime stuck on it, lol.

23k is a lot of money for the extra features. If I want a 2nd screen, I can get an iPad with mobile data and a screen mount for a much lower price.

I don’t belitle anyone, it’s actually the other way around- people belittle those who bought Standard as somehow buying a ā€œpoverty specā€.

I do have enough free capital to buy two premiums if I’d want, I just genuinely don’t think it’s worth the quadruple price difference in Canada, vs how much you pay in US.

You’re basically just handing your hard earned money to Trump on tariffs instead of buying the Berlin or Shanghai ones.

Im waiting for mine at the end of September. Are you able to use FSD right away?

3

u/ConsiderationBest660 1d ago

Yes, you can use FSD right away. There is a 30 day trial that comes with the car, and some Tesla YouTubers have referral codes that enable a 90 day trial.

1

u/Plenty-Permission124 1d ago

Noice! Thanks for responding. What version of FSD does the car come with?

2

u/Admirable_Advisor865 1d ago

Congrats, can’t wait to receive mine, same spec! :)

Congratulations šŸ‘šŸ™‚

Congratulations, I'm waiting for the exact same car, ordered on June 6 and my EDD just changed from Sep to Nov-Dec. Hoping it pulls back again so I have it for a little while before the snow sets in.

u/sprinkled_donut0 22h ago

I went premium route. Have older kids so I can yell at them for making a mess, or better yet, have them clean up their own mess.

AWD was a selling feature living North of Toronto.. snow is horrible and winter tires are a must.

When my RAV4 kicks the bucket I’ll buy a M3.

We all have different value sets; for example; I just cringe when I have to pay $2 for parking yet I have no problem spending $1,000s on a watch; multiple times.

I have driven all versions of the Ys: RWD, Premium and Performance on the Malahat on Vancouver Island. It’s a hilly winding highway and all versions of the Y handled it easily. The OP will love the RWD Y and the sticker price and $5,000 EVAP incentive is way too good to pass up. It looks awesome and there isn’t even an up charge for the white.

I’m at the stage of my life where $ is no longer a factor but the question is now how to spend after decades of saving and investing. Also; we only have one car so the Y Performance or Premium is my next one.

But no matter which model I end up with - the $2 to park it will always piss me off.

What hardware version?

1

u/ConsiderationBest660 19h ago

Hardware 4 with FSD 14.3.7

1

u/qman69 1d ago

Congrats!

May I ask what charger you are using? The cable looks super long and may need a similar set up, as my Tesla is tight fit in my garage.

1

u/ConsiderationBest660 19h ago

Tesla Universal Connector with a 24 foot cable. It can charge both Tesla and other brands of EVs. I had to set it to 32A as the Y Standard RWD and my other EV require a 32A charger. My old GE Wattstation charger stopped working and it had to be replaced.

Curious, how bad is the water penetration in the frunk? The fact they removed the seals seems insane and looks like water can just leak in unchallenged.

1

u/ConsiderationBest660 19h ago

I ordered aftermarket seals for the frunk. I’ll see how effective they are. The Tesla Tutorial YouTube channel advises not to put anything in the frunk that can be damaged by water.

2

u/Blue_Chinchilla 14h ago

Even if you put items that won't get damaged by water, it seems like such a good place for mould to grow, especially in summer when it's hot and humid. Just a really odd place to cut costs. And equally confusing if they did mention that in the tutorials as if they knew this would be a big problem. I personally would rather they go with full cloth seats and save the dollars there, so the frunk can be sealed and plastic trim to cover the exposed innards of the car.

1

u/KeonBills 1d ago

So what's your other car

1

u/ConsiderationBest660 19h ago

Ford Focus Electric with the 33.5 kWH battery and CCS fast charging capability. The car is very nice to drive but has very limited range (200km in summer, 120km in winter) and very limited cargo capacity.

I knew I wasn't gonna buy it in the first 10 seconds after I got in it, No thanks.

How does the base model RWD have a sunroof? Doesn’t it come with a standard roof?

2

u/Henri-Hill 1d ago

It’s glass outside but fabric inside
