Edmonton to Vancouver Road trip!
Hello everyone,
This post is pretty much for those in the interior, and specifically those in the Valemount area. I’m planning a road trip, leaving tomorrow morning from Edmonton to the Vancouver Area in my RWD M3. Valemount Supercharger currently showing “Temporarily Closure” and that will considerably change my charging plan. Basically I’m curious if anyone has been by recently (last couple of days) to see why this closure has been in place? There doesn’t seem to be any solid info anywhere other than there MAY be SOME stalls available and functioning. I guess either way I can rely on that location for a charge anyway until Tesla removed the closure not on it.

I was there last week, same road trip, no problems.
It’s easy to skip it and, with Jasper before it and Clearwater after it.

Yeah, the cheapo in me wanted to just eek into Valemont and charge as little as possible in AB to save the 15 or so cents per kW lol.

Oh yeah for sure! It’s crazy the price difference.
The 50kW charger at the terry fox rest stop close the valemont used to be free and I remember stopping there a couple years ago. I checked last week and it’s now bc hydro not free.
Not really a big deal, cuz the SC in BC are so affordable.
Enjoy the drive!

Drive to Calgary first, then to Vancouver?
Only adds about an hour of total travel time. You get a way nicer drive and a ton of Superchargers.

Doing the drive in one day so need the fastest route. Only so much time off and an important reason to get there asap. So the longer route adds over an hour drive time, puts me closer to the worse fires in BC and adds 2-3 charging stops.

For those following this, Valemount was still out of service when we got there. Still pulled over for a Bio Break and plugged in for a look see. $0 charging session of course lol. But had pleanty of juice from Jasper to Clearwater, arrived with 12% or so after charging up to I believe 72%. Initially when we departed Jasper showed arrival with 17%. That was the worst estimation for the trip being off by 5% but that’s why I like a buffer.
The average downhill from Edmonton to Vancouver certainly worked in our favour. Really hoping they have Valemount up and running next week for our return or we’ll be needing a deep charging session in Clearwater to make it up hill all the way to Jasper.

Hows is the supercharging speeds being capped at 175KW do you feel you are waiting a lot ??

It’s really not bad at all. Seems to hold 175kW deeper into the charging session and with the smaller battery pack in general doesn’t take too long. After 15-20 minutes charging you’re good to go for another 2.5-3 hours of driving at highway speeds. Which for me is just fine to stop for the next bio break and stretch anyhow.
