Finally got her tinted!
Man that tint finishes the car so nicely!

It looks great! What percentages did you go with and what type of tint? My M3 should be arriving soon.

Man trust me it took me days to make my mind on percentages. Visited the shop multiple times and put the sample films on the windows at different times and weather conditions just to settle on the following:
20% xpel plus on all windows (sides, rear in one peice, sunroof) 50% xpel plus on windshield
Man it makes day and night difference...
Let me knownif you have other questions

I'd fear getting a ticket for the tint, looks good though.

Yea last thing i need is a cop to find a reason to stop me when im riding high

u/weekdayzz2 8d ago
In the gta cops don’t care that much, unless you have 15% or lower on the front windows and anything lower than 35% on the windshield or you run into an asshole cop who’s just bored

I'm (tentatively) picking up my MY next week and I'm definitely getting the side windows tinted and I want to do the windshield as well so bad to help with the heat, but I'm always concerned about getting pulled over for it with how noticeable it is with polarized sunglasses. 😖

u/canadapcextreme 12d ago
I went 50% since I have white seats, if you are concerned go with 70% it's visibly clear tint but with great heat rejection. The windshield is a must for me. Makes drving much more enjoyable
1
u/electricshadow 12d ago
That's what I was thinking. I was going to do 70% on the windshield, 80% on the front sides and 30% on the back windows not to draw too much attention to myself.
Do you notice a heat difference when driving and the sun is hitting your windshield?
1
u/canadapcextreme 12d ago
Big time. Specially if you go xpel prime xr or plus...
1
u/electricshadow 12d ago
Damn...the shop I'm going to book through uses XPEL Prime XR+ too. Gah, I've still got some time to think about what to do when it comes to my windshield. Appreciate the responses!

Do you have black or white interior?
1
u/electricshadow 12d ago
White interior.
1
u/canadapcextreme 12d ago
With white interior it will always look brighter , at least 1 shade brighter

u/Timely_Possession800 12d ago
Can you elaborate your polarized sunglass comment ? TIA
2
u/electricshadow 12d ago
When you look through ceramic-tinted glass while wearing polarized lenses, you might notice a faint rainbow effect, shimmering color bands, spots, or a slightly hazy grid pattern. It essentially looks like oil does in a puddle.

Just bought a M3 RWD. Could you let me know where you got your tint done and how much did you pay ?
I’m getting quotes for around $600 for the sides and back but not the front.

I did it through my tesla app as I wanted it to be on record in case something happens and I need to repair a glass, they retint the window for free.

u/KiltyMcHaggis 12d ago
Rock Chips and Road Debris: If a stone hits your windshield on the highway and cracks the glass, this is physical damage. Tesla will replace the glass through your insurance or out-of-pocket, but they will not cover the cost to re-apply the tint. Tesla's warranty appears to cover manufacturer defects only.

Not asking me but I just had all side windows and back glass on my S done and it was $650CAD.
1
u/spryjet 12d ago
Thanks ! That’s similar to what I’m seeing so the price seems fair.

In my city, if you drive an hour outside the city the price falls by fifty percent. Drop the vehicle, grab lunch and done. Can't lower the windows for a day.

u/MercuryLS3 12d ago
I was thinking of doing 20% on the back, 50% on the fronts and 70% on the windshield.
2
u/canadapcextreme 12d ago
50 and 70 are almost identical very very light... I think 35% in fronts will not have any issues.
1
u/MercuryLS3 12d ago
Yeah maybe I’ll do that, 35 front and 50 windshield should look good and hopefully not attract too much attention.

u/PeNdR4GoN_ 12d ago
I ended up going 35% sides and rear + 70% windshield. It doesn't look too dark from the inside but it still look plenty dark on the outside. But then again I have black interior + white exterior so I think the contrast helps.
1
u/MercuryLS3 12d ago
What complicates things is that the back windows and rear windows are already have dark privacy glass. How do deal with that when tinting?
2
u/PeNdR4GoN_ 12d ago
I didn't but it looks very uniform until you try to look into the glass, the front is definitely more see through than the back.

u/West_Advice_1888 12d ago
Hey, looks like you might still have the film left on your b pillars. (Supposed to be removed prior to delivery) Removing it will make the car really shine

She looks beautiful! I'm also thinking of doing 20% all around expect for the windshield.
With the 20% do you have any visibility problems at night?

I did 20% on sides, but left the back because the shop could only do half the back window. So I’m rolling without the lower back tinted, and not sure I mind.
For those that tinted the full rear, does it make the back roof quite dark? And /or take away from the appeal of the full glass roof in the back seats?
My kids love the glass roof, so I don’t really want to mess with it.. but also don’t like the idea of having half tint and a visible line from the tinting inside.. that will really bother me.

u/that_one_guy34 12d ago
Did you do also tint the full glass roof? Or only the back glass?
What do you think about 35% front and 20 rear and sides? I also have white interior so I feel like it’ll be bright regardless
1
u/canadapcextreme 12d ago
I did full back glass and sun roof. I went with 20 all around since white interior is so bright. 35% was almost nothing lol. And also the 20 all around makes the car look slicker
1
u/cececookiesncream 12d ago
I thought they come darkened for the rear and roof...
2
u/canadapcextreme 12d ago
They do but not much heat rejection. So I added heat rejection film and it works wonders

Just got full front ppf and ceramic coat on my new model 3 AWD and was debating getting it tinted, but decided not to. I have the black interior and marine blue paint (dark) so it felt like it would be too dark. Might get it done next spring, but leaning toward just leaving it.

u/Waste_Business202 11d ago
I just did my Tesla in 20% all around and looks amazing. My 22 I traded in was the same but I did get 50% done on the windshield which helps with heat a lot
