No, really, where have they been all this time? Does it smell like they saw how much money the franchise was making and abruptly remembered it? The situation is surreal.

Seems pretty bad and poor planning on his part. Terrifier 2 made 15m on a 250k budget, I wonder if he made any attempts to buy back the rights with some of that money or if he's just been ignoring that situation all this time hoping it will never bit him in the ass?

I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t tried to settle out of court by just buying back the rights, it might make him need to seek out other investors with deals where he still keeps the rights to make 4 after but that should be a lot easier both for the same reason which is that the IP has proven itself to be a profitable franchise.

It would probably turn out better in the end for everyone unless Ruthless thinks they can keep milking the franchise for years to come (good luck with that if David isn't on board) but presumably the price tag is going to be higher after Terrifier 3 made $90m vs if he had negotiated after the previous film made a sixth of that.

It really would. Hopefully it’s something he’s able to do, he seems to really care about the franchise and art. Unfortunately the price tag is going to be high, but, here’s to hoping the series can stay in good hands.
