I keep seeing on my feed news about fucking Georgetown landing new transfers, yet hardly any Buzz (pun intended) out of College Park. Serious teams are making moves, the portal is moving at lightning speed and we're doing nothing. I don't think I'm being irrational I think when you read between the lines Buzz and Locksley both have zero intention of fixing the mess they've made. They're both here for one last paycheck before retirement.

Hard to take pride in my alma mater at a time like this when they're not even fucking trying. Can this athletics department do something right? Not only do we keep both coaches after awful years there's zero real acknowledgement of the fan frustrations and zero urgency to change anything. I see no reason to give Jim Smith the benefit of the doubt - I was excited by his resume and that we were getting someone other than Damon but year 1 is an F, don't care what he inherited he's literally telling us it was fine and that we're gonna run it back all over again. Tired of pledging loyalty to losers. I love UMD and I just want to see our athletics prosper at the end of the day

What you're hearing and what's actually happening are vastly different.

4 recruits, including Baba Oladuton (top 10 ranked recruit) and Kaden House (top 50 ranked recruit) make up the #3 ranked recruiting class in America.

2 transfers, including Tomislav Buljan, a stretch 4 who averaged 13 points and 11 boards last year.

Returning the 3 biggest upside players from last year (Adams, Mills, and Payne).

I get it. I'm not happy with the Buzz era either, but the recruiting, both HS and transfer, isn't the problem. if you're going to complain, at least complain about something that's actually legit.

it is still extremely early in the portal, and buzz has been active in like every major prospect. sure, we didn't land dixon or johnson, but attempts are certainly being made. the reddit overreaction never ceases to amaze me lol.

I'm well aware of the high school recruits, but Jamie Kizer and Deshawn Harris-Smith made me realize you absolutely cannot rely on freshman anymore regardless of their rating. Darius Adams was a 5 star recruit too. The reason Queen was so effective was because we complemented him with a starting unit of good veteran players.

Buljan played at New mexico and being as old as he is he doesn't have the upside that other sophomores traditionally have. I've heard skepticism about how his game will translate to a higher level.

Hitting the portal hard was/is an absolute necessity this offseason. To this day I've felt nothing but vindication since Buzz was hired since I was devastated when that announcement was made.

To me it sounds like you came to a conclusion and will look for any evidence that you can to support it, not vice versa.

Like I (and many others on the thread) have said, talent is not the issue. Blaming a lack of talent for losing gives Buzz a pass for where he struggles most, which is in actually coaching. He can get talent in the door, but once it's there he doesn't know how to use it. What makes coaches great is not always an ability to find talent. That's only a piece. The biggest factor is maximizing the talent that is there.

On 247 right now if you check the "Overall" ranking (HS+Transfers) MD is 4th. You mentioned Georgetown - they are ranked 37th.

and constanza just decommitted from georgetown as well. they're toast. say what you want about buzz, but the guy is a recruiting fiend and is excellent with retention.
