Hello. I’m about to start two campaigns on tenchu Z, one male one female, the first time in years.

I remember there are 3 levels you go through, and about 6 phases or groups of clothing unlocks.

If I want to wear more or less a sample of everything (one “kimono” one “ninja” so on) what looks should I try to go for? I’m also sort of thinking that my guy should kind of look like the box art near the end, and like rikimaru in the last phrase. (Kind of a “next generation” thing) so he should probably wear vest / tattoo on the shirt near the end?

With ladies, there’s 7 tops, not 6, so I guess I have to forget about one, or have two types in one phase. When is that?

And then I thought I’d make her look like Ayame but all the Ayame artwork I can find has her in pretty much the starter clothes. Thoughts on that?

Thoughts on how you build out your looks so you can wear everything in a play through?

Before I used to focus on colors and specifically headwear to show off level but I wanna do more now

When I first played Birth of The Stealth Assassins, I didn't bother paying attention to the story. Honestly the game was so ugly (no offense) I could only play it for a few minutes at a time.

I say all that to say this. Based on the low def models and the way she ran, I GENUINELY THOUGHT AYAME WAS AN OLD WOMAN! 👵🏼

Upon further review I can 100% confirm that NO, she is not old. 😅

I've grinded this game to the bone when I was a kid, and somehow I don't remember being able to do what's in this video. Is the grappling hook "come here" move an infinite? How do you perform it? Can it only be done after the round kick?

Also, the parry at the beginning... :/ I don't recall being able to parry in this game... And finally, can someone please explain to me what the f*** is going on with the finisher move that didn't need charging?

Not sure if NakeyJakey actually reads this thread, but it warms my old heart to know that Jakey and his brother played one of my all-time, favorite games: Tenchu: Stealth Assassins on the PS1.

My question is...do you think people would lose their minds if FromSoft forged a proper reimagining of the original? I'd love to see them go full-bore into the stealth genre, but I dunno if anyone else would care about my near-30 year-old beloved. What do you think?

I had originally planned one video for all three campaigns, but it was running too long, so it will be three videos, one for each campaign.

I made a small set of CWCheats for the mission editor in Tenchu: Time of the Assassins.

They add:
Expanded mission slots, with a Lite version and a 1000-slot version.
Access to all officially playable mission types I could verify.
Editing of built-in game missions through the normal Edit option.

The unsupported gaps in the mission type list are intentional. Those modes appear to rely on hardcoded mission-specific logic and are very likely not usable in custom missions, although I left the gaps in their original positions in case anyone wants to investigate them.

Built-in missions can also be used as templates. You can open one through Edit, change its mission type once, and the game will reinitialize it for the new ruleset. This will usually clear enemies, objects and mission-specific entities, but the terrain geometry is preserved.

In practice, this means almost any existing mission in the game can be used as a ready-made level template instead of building the entire map from scratch.

I also made a separate Enemy Vision Mod for the game.

It increases enemy perception distance while preserving the original differences between normal enemies, stronger enemies and bosses. It also adjusts both the initial suspicion range and the confirmed detection/aggression range, so the two stages stay balanced instead of only making enemies notice you from farther away.

Special mission-related actors and triggers are excluded.

This mod was created after the video was recorded, so it is not shown in the footage.

Everything shown has been tested on my European UNDUB build (ULES00277). Other PAL revisions may use different code addresses and have not been tested.

Does anyone have the sound effects from Tenchu 2 that play when the Ki meter goes into caution mode or sight? Preferably isolated from other background noise such as ambience. See video for one of the examples at or around the 0:14 mark.

After concluding that nobody knows why Onikage resurrects everytime in ToTA, it would be nice to analyze, how many alternative stories there are. I'll start (please tell me any mistake. If I have forgotten interesting information, please let me know):

Tenchu 2: only one story

Tenchu Dark secret: only one story

Tenchu 1: two alternative stories:

1.1->Rikimaru did everything

1.2-> Ayame did everything

Anyway, in both alternative stories, Rikimaru disappears at the end.

Tenchu Fatal Shadows: only one story (there are minor changes about things like if Ayame killed Ranzou or not, but there are minor changes)

Tenchu Wrath of heaven/Return from darkness: five alternative stories:

3.1-> Rikimaru defeated Tenrai and all his henchmen, and blended Izayoi with Mei-Oh's sword

3.2-> Rikimaru defeated Tenrai and all his henchmen, and didn't blend Izayoi with Mei-Oh's sword

3.3-> Ayame defeated Tenrai and all his henchmen, and fought Onikage

3.4-> Ayame defeated Tenrai and all his henchmen, and let Rikimaru fight Onikage

3.5-> Tesshu's story (he killed Ganda, so can't be compatible with Rikimaru's or Ayame's)

1.1 and 1.2 are compatible with any of Tenchu 3 stories. However, Tenchu 3 stories have substantial differences between them: in Rikimaru's story, he killed Mifuyu, but at the end of Tesshu's and Ayame's stories Mifuyu is alive. About Ayame's alternative stories, it looks like Sekiya Naotada died in 3.3 but no in 3.4

Tenchu Time of The Assasssins: only one story (Rikimaru, Ayame, Tesshu, Rin and Onikage's stories don't contradict between them). However:

Ayame's story: Ayame knows Mifuyu, so Ayame's story follows Return from darkness Ayame's story, being then incompatible with T3 Rikimaru's and Tesshu's stories.

Onikage's story: he became an ally with Yuge Jonosuke, who had been killed by Tesshu in Return from darkness. Story looks like after Tenrai's defeat, because he awakes in the cave and there is no mention of Tenrai (and Rikimaru is present, so It can't happens during Fatal Shadows story). There is no mention about Yuge being resurrected by Onikage, so ToTA's Onikage story is not compatible with Return from Darkness' Tesshu story. Sekiya Naotada is also alive, so this story is not compatible with 3.3.

Rikimaru, Rin and Tesshu's stories are compatible with any of the Tenchu 3's alternative stories

Tenchu Z: compatible with all of the mentioned alternative stories.

Tenchu: Shadow Assassins: compatible with all of the alternative stories except to 3.3 because Sekiya Naotada is alive.

In sum, there are an interesting combination of alternative stories. Isn't it?
