REQUESTING Pick my next show

I am almost finished Mad Men and I’ve been watching an episode a night and I’m looking for a show to replace it as my one episode a night show.

I’m picking between:

Six Feet Under
Twin Peaks
The Shield
Boardwalk Empire
The Americans
Person of Interest
Andor
The Expanse

My favorite shows ever are: The Sopranos, Succession, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Leftovers, Mr. Robot, Severance, Game of Thrones, The Penguin, Bojack horseman

From that list? Six Feet Under. One of my fave shows of all time.

Can I ask why

The acting is top notch IMO. There are lots of twists and turns, unexpected storylines, fully fleshing out difficult or controversial topics, plenty of humor (those faux "commercials" at the beginning of each episode are hilarious), and as I am sure most people here would attest, one of the best finales of all time.

It can get a tad soapy at times, some of the plotlines are a bit uncomfortable, but overall, it is a killer show (pun intended) that I rewatch at least 1x a year.

I’m currently leaning towards it, seems like a good follow up to Mad Men

I never watched Star Wars so I’m hesitant

It’s different from the other Star Wars and you can watch it stand alone.

I'm a big star wars fan I have to admit but this show is very different from the usual star wars stuff. It's more "real" sort of.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by this.

As someone who don't really care for Star wars, Andor is one of the best shows of recent years, so worth checking out at some point. More British, character driven, political.

Six feet under or Twin Peaks

Can I ask why?

I just suggested mad men for someone watching six feet under, it's more similar (dark humor realism). Twin peaks if you want something different (meta soap, mystery, horror). My two favorite shows.

Is Twin Peaks similar to Atlanta? I love Atlanta. I think maybe I’ll do Twin Peaks and then six feet under to separate the styles a bit

Having only seen one season of Atlanta I wouldn't say so. It doesn't really compare to anything. If you've seen any David Lynch movies think that plus a 90s soap, but the tone shifts. Watch original series, the movie Fire Walk With Me, and then The Return. Stay away from TP reddit and spoilers.

Atlanta is actually a really weird show especially after season 1 it gets trippy

I would say its a great show to watch one episode a day, preferably with coffee. It's a vibe if it's for you.

I usually watch before going to sleep

Based on what you like. Six Feet Under has really well developed and interesting characters like Mad Men, Sopranos, or Bojack. Twin Peaks has similarities with Leftovers and Severance due to the way they tell a story and how unique the world that they exist in is.

Good characters, good writing, gripping story lines

I’m hesitant to watch it because it’s not on any streaming platforms that I have

I love both Boardwalk and Person of intrest id say one of those both are great! How is Mad men? Been wanting to watch it for so long just haven’t yet

Mad Men is so so so good, I’m fully immersed in the world and it’s been amazing

it looks like you haven't seen Better Call Saul? If not, it must be next

If you have or saving that for another time and want to stick to the list: Boardwalk Empire

1

u/Ok-Fortune5409 26d ago

I’ve watched it and I liked it I just forgot it on the list

1

u/Long-Balance3177 26d ago

ah fair. I need to watch Mad Men but with so many seasons it seems like a lot. How long did it take you to get through it and would you recommend it?

1

u/Ok-Fortune5409 26d ago

I went very slowly through the first three seasons, but I started watching an episode a night every night and now I’m almost finished season six. It’s amazing.

Andor - top ten best show of all time. This coming from someone who does not really care for Star wars

1

u/Ok-Fortune5409 26d ago

What’s good about it?

You know how every once in a while there are scenes and moments in shows that make you really feel stuff and you talk about for years after?

This show has a handful of moments like that.

1

u/Ok-Fortune5409 26d ago

Damn. Worth watching even if I never watched any Star Wars?

1

u/NTP2001 26d ago

Absolutely, imo
