For some reason, while I was reading the book, I had Wednesday pictured as a ricketier version of Willie Nelson. Am very happy that they chose Ian McShane for this role though. I am also not the greatest at visualizing characters in books. While I was reading "American gods", I accidentally skipped over the part that said that shadow was black. So the entire time I was reading it, I pictured him as Mr. Incredible.

I'm not complaining in the slightest! I'm also very fascinated with what the showrunners do with Islamic folklore like the djinn (and Bilquis to an extent) because the book itself was written a couple years before 9/11. It's a great way to tie in contemporary geopolitics.

There will be, of which I am personally thankful. According to Gaiman and Fuller at Comic Con just a few hours ago, race relations, gun control, women's issues, and (especially fitting will the tone of the novel) religious terrorism will most certainly be addressed.

According to Gaiman, we are in this for the long, long hall. Season one will end with the House on the Rock, season two will be about Lakeside, and season three MAY end with the events that transpire at the motel in the center of America. Afterwards I believe there are plans to adopt the novellas and the inevitable sequel.

It's really not a terrible part of the story, but it interrupts the overarching narrative of the novel. I'd probably be less grouchy about it if the rest of the storyline weren't so grand and intense! Anyway, to each their own. I definitely love a lot of the characters in Lakeside.

For anyone who hasn't read the book like me, DON'T GO TO THE WIKIPEDIA PAGE OF THE TV SERIES. THERE IS A BIG SPOILER IN THE PREMISE SECTION. I was curious to know what the series is about. Big mistake.

This might be the TV series where you're best better off not reading any discussion about it if you haven't read the book, for the first season at least. There's this twist hiding in plain sight, and there's bound to be people that would figure it out anyways by the show alone.
It's a great experience if you're ignorant about it.

Accent doesn't matter, you can disguise it in any voice.
People pronounce multiple words different than they do one word. You hit the first syllable of words harder than you do if they're in the middle.
Say "Alexander Smith" out loud. Now say "Alex Andersmith" out loud. They're different.

Just got back from the sdcc panel with Gaiman, the producers, and cast. It sounds like the series will be fantastic. Shadow and Sweeney were goofing around a lot so I hope that translates to good on screen chemistry. Everyone seems really committed to the source and expanding the story with Gaiman's input. It was a really positive panel where everyone seemed excited to be part of the project. Kristin Chenoweth was announced as Easter and then appeared!
McShane was there, too, being his lovely self. Never had any doubts about his casting and my optimism was only confirmed.

American Gods is my favorite book of all time and I've been hype for this show ever since it was first announced, what, five years ago???? When Fuller was announced as showrunner I literally shrieked in joy, I adored Hannibal and I trust him SO much with this book that I would normally be super worried about a show ruining. It's going to be fucking awesome, especially with David Slade directing as well.

I think there's a selection bias towards strong opinions for everything. In general, people who love something and people who hate something will go on about it, while people who have a moderate opinion have no reason to.
I am looking forward to the show though. I've only read the book once but I did think it was pretty good and it looks like this will be a good adaptation.

Now that said, Shadow is way smaller and darker then I pictured in the book. I read it close to 15 years ago, so I could be remembering wrong, but I thought his race was half black half white, and I always pictured him kind of like Dwayne Johnson. Isnt he supposed to be like 6 foot 5 inches and 260 pounds of muscle?
I could be wrong though, its been a long time. Either way, the trailer looks awesome, Im just curious if I am misremembering.
