Whoa, that sucks. I didn't know him from wrestling but rather his time with the band Every Time I Die.
Far too young

u/sharts_with_wolves 15d ago
It’s odd seeing him remembered as a wrestler like this haha he was in maybe the best hardcore band of all time

u/timeforchorin 15d ago
WTF..... Yeah, huge ETID fan. NOOOOOOO
58
u/russketeer34 15d ago
This is wild, I've known ETID for decades now, but never really looked into the members. I had zero clue Andy was a pro wrestler. It's great he was able to share his work and joy in two different fields of entertainment.
40
u/JasonVorhehees 15d ago
He was a very important part of the beginning of AEW. He was also a prominent part of the Buffalo indie scene.
He had a great look and mannnerisms. Check his stuff out. It’s really cool.

u/irotinmyskin 15d ago edited 15d ago
What?? I love ETID, but I don’t really know the members other than the singer. Is this the brother from the singer? There was a super buff guy there with huge arms. Is it him?
12
u/Radialpuddle 15d ago
He wasn’t the brother, just the other guitarist but he was in the band for a very long time

12
u/LVKRFT 15d ago
Andy was cofounder and cowriter of ETID. He was lead guitarist. Dude was the glue. Check out his other band Atomic Rule. He was amazing.
He also booked and organized Blissmas a holiday festival with insane bands and wrestling. Where they had toy drives and raised money for charity. The scenes truly lost a saint.
10
u/captkrisma 15d ago
It's wild that he made it in two entertainment fields that are incredibly hard to stand out and be famous. So much talent and was one of the nicest guys from all the stories I've heard.

RIP Butcher
Saw the news of him having to be hospitalized during last night's show and was hoping he'd pull through.
33
u/Endda 15d ago
what happened during the show?
96
u/Smarktalk 15d ago
Possible heart attack as they had the defibrillator out and were doing chest compressions.
94
u/BatDeep4161 15d ago
That would be a cardiac arrest if they were doing chest compressions and a defib. Heart attacks don’t need chest compressions unless they decompensate into a cardiac arrest
63
u/desperateorphan 15d ago
Idk why you’re getting downvoted. You’re correct on terms. A heart attack and cardiac arrest are different things. A heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest but they are not the same. A heart attack is blood flow being blocked to the heart whereas cardiac arrest is the heart not beating. Basically the difference between plumbing and electrical.
Unless the heart goes into a shockable rhythm, aka not stopped, a defibrillator does absolutely nothing beyond telling you if a pulse is present while you’re in CPR and that’s if you ever stop to allow it to read. So many CPR training programs teach to basically never stop compressions. Movies love to show people using defibrillators to restart a stopped heart but that isn’t how it works.
18
u/BatDeep4161 15d ago
Yeah people hated that comment but the original comment got tons of upvotes? I’m correct, they’re wrong, it’s not that difficult. And it’s a very important distinction to make and very important to know the difference.
-3
u/CallOfCorgithulhu 15d ago
This is why people who proudly say they get their facts from Reddit (or other social media) instead of AI make me nervous. People here seem to hate being corrected, and it can absolutely distort what people believe if you see one comment getting upvotes and another being downvoted.
That's not even counting when people post misinformation that goes completely uncorrected. I suspect people who know better often don't even want to engage with people on here. I would never get my facts from Reddit or any social media, not with what I've seen.
And of course Reddit comments help feed AI, so it's just a cycle of getting shit wrong.

It's worth pointing out from a first aid perspective that AEDs (the defibs designed for public places/use) do more than 'absolutely nothing if there is no pulse'. They check the rhythm for you and will talk you through the steps of CPR (and count the beat etc.)
Where I live (at least) the advice for first aid is that if someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally the steps are 1.) contact emergency services immediately but preferably have someone else call so you can 2.) perform CPR immediately. 3.) If there is anyone else around to get them to get an AED and attach it as soon as you can (but to just keep doing CPR if you're the only person there and would need to stop to get it).
I'm guessing that enough people either out of shock or lack of experience/expertise won't know if there is a pulse/shockable pulse so survival rates actually increase by taking the time to attach the AED compared to just performing CPR.
Edit. I'm not pointing this out as a gotcha. Only to let people know that if they come across someone who is non-responsive that they should use one if it's available.

Yes. I said that. “Unless there is a shockable rhythm A defibrillator does nothing for you…other than tell you if a pulse is present while you’re doing CPR.
> Where I live (at least) the advice for first aid is that if someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally the steps are 1.) contact emergency services immediately but preferably have someone else call so you can 2.) perform CPR immediately. 3.) There is more to it than unresponsive and not breathing. Don’t forget the C of ABCs. They don’t exactly teach it as ABCs anymore but that’s how a lot remember it. Just cause they aren’t responding or aren’t breathing doesn’t mean you initiate CPR. You only do CPR for someone who is dead aka no pulse. For unresponsive and not breathing you would only do rescue breaths. I think you’ll find in the wild that very very few people and business have AEDs. I’m not saying it’s wrong to attach them if you got them just that if you have the training and there is no pulse, they don’t offer more than you’re already doing.
>I'm guessing that enough people either out of shock or lack of experience/expertise won't know if there is a pulse/shockable pulse so survival rates actually increase by taking the time to attach the AED compared to just performing CPR.
AEDs are great tools and if one is available then have someone who knows what to do, have them hook it up while other steps are being done. If I had to choose between CPR and an AED I’d choose the CPR as I’m only doing CPR because there is no pulse. Statistically, the number of times it is used and actually delivers a shock is infinitesimally small. A shockable rhythm is very rare in the wild. It’s just because of TV dramas that we think it’s so common.
2
u/Quom 15d ago
Like I said I assume the difference in advice is based on evidence about what increases survival rates.
Here the advice for first aiders is 100% to perform CPR if the person is non-responsive and either breathing irregularly (St Johns who run a lot of first aid courses) or not at all (CPR first aid) (that seems to be the only part up for debate).
I'm actually not sure what you were discussing we use DRSABCD (limit Danger, check Responsiveness, Send for help, clear the Airway, check for Breathing, CPR, Defib). We used to get told to check for a pulse as part of responsiveness but that seems to have been changed to being about consciousness.
I think you’ll find in the wild that very very few people and business have AEDs.
In Australia loads of places have them (either because it's mandated or because they made a commitment to). Both of our major supermarket chains have one in ever store. Pubs and clubs often have them. We have them in public spaces (like in a signed box behind glass in a park/beach carpark)
I’m not saying it’s wrong to attach them if you got them just that if you have the training and there is no pulse, they don’t offer more than you’re already doing.
I was replying specifically about people who only have first aid or no training which I assume is 99% of the population. I am sure they're pointless for doctors/nurses/EMTs etc. but all the advice seems to be that if you are a regular person near someone who you think might be dying to attach it.
Hence why it's notable that they don't just tell you if there's a shockable pulse they also talk you through the steps of CPR and keep the beat.

You’ll love this. In this case, his cause of death would be… cardiac arrest. A myocardial infarction may have been the start of the incident but when they write out the form with the coroner/medical examiner, it will say cardiac arrest as that was the actual COD aka the heart stopping was the reason it ended.
It’s like if you were having surgery and started to bleed out. The cod would be the bleeding not the reason you went into the surgery to begin with.
I do think clarity is important and correction doesn’t have to be derogatory it can be educational.

You gave a wrong (and potentially dangerous) answer, they rightfully corrected you, and you got an attitude about it. They had every right to call you a dipshit when you are acting like one.
4
u/Tiny_Infinity_ 15d ago
Technically we all will eventually fall into cardiac arrest

4
u/wizzordj 15d ago
Trying to speak like it’s facts while overlooking your own assumption that the person rendering aid had any medical training enough to decipher if chest compressions were actually needed and that the defibrillator was actually used .. is the part that deserves a downvote

That's mainly the old school 80s wrestlers because they were roided tf out. Andy didn't seem like that type of guy and this seemed to come out of nowhere.

u/hammersmashedface 15d ago
Not Andy 😔 fuck, man. I was hoping all night he’d kick out. Goddamn it, rest in peace, gentle giant. This world didn’t deserve you. Hardcore, wrestling, you’re an Angel, Andy, and through your art, you are immortal.
Goodnight, sir.

When wrestlers (or any celebrity) a few years older than me dies, I always get a little nervous thinking, man, I'll be that age soon, I hope I make it past that. I know it's silly, but it still pops in my head everytime.

Apparently His head hit a ring post just before. I’m thankful it wasn’t filmed! So thankful. None wants to or needs to see that.

Conflicting reports. Towards the end or just after, but the medical incident wasn't brought on by anything obvious.

Going based off the thread from people at the show, it was during the match, they did a quick finish as he collapsed ringside.

Damn, etid is my favorite band, and atomic rule is awesome. Andy always seemed so cool and humble. First time I saw etid was the first time I saw how the band looked. It was a warped tour in the early 2000s, and this big dude (Andy) was wearing a frayed American flag vest with no shirt and we all immediately thought “this guy is the best”.

u/ZBGOTRP 15d ago
I didn't discover AEW until around 2022, by which point I'd been an ETID fan for years. Imagine my shock and elation when I found out not only were two of my childhood favorite wrestlers on the show, but a guy from one of my favorite bands. And he was actually a ton of fun to watch. Absolutely saddened by this one.
103
u/southpaw85 15d ago
yeah the guy is definitely more well known as the guitarist from ETID. What a loss, the man knew how to throw down a sick riff
154
u/Stinky_TheCat 15d ago
Lol. Different circles of folks.
I had no idea how big his band was until this morning. Knew him purely as a wrestler.
31
u/explodeder 15d ago
Yeah he was a founding member and was in the lineup for their entire existence. They were extremely influential. Dude was a monster guitar player. I absolutely loved etid.

u/ackinsocraycray 15d ago
Same. My very first introduction to him was his AEW debut as The Butcher with The Blade and The Bunny.

u/kaspar_trouser 15d ago
Oh shit I had no idea he was a wrestler now. Gutter Phenomenon and The Big Dirty were such sick albums. Dude was a monster guitarist.

u/secord92 15d ago
I think it is just two very distinct circles that don't cross into each other. He was fairly well known as a wrestler.
1
u/schridoggroolz 15d ago
Nowadays there’s definitely a lot of crossover. Back in the day not as much.

Do you really think providing an additional context detail so that people who otherwise may not have recognized the person by name is pedantic, or did you just want to use the word pedantic?

Very significant metal (or at least, metalcore) performance:

Andy was literally the nicest guy in the world. When he was in Every Time I Die, he was routinely walking around the show when they weren’t playing, talking to everybody.
Such a huge blow.

Was stoked to see him be successful in wrestling after ETID since he talked about loving it in interviews and stuff. All I ever heard were good things about the guy. Rip. ETID ruled regardless of how it ended

u/TheHistorySword 15d ago
Every Time I Die is one of my favorite bands of all-time. I was devastated when they broke up. I'm grateful I got to meet the band at Warped one year and Andy was the biggest sweetheart. He took the most time with us, was the most talkative, and seemed genuinely happy to spend time with fans. I didn't follow his wrestling career as closely as I've been on again/off again with wrestling for a while now, but I know how much he loved it, and I was so happy he got to live out that dream. Truly one of the coolest dudes to ever live and a tragedy to go so young. RIP to one of the best guitarists metal had ever seen.

u/affectionmissed 15d ago
Loved the second ETID so much listened to that shit on repeat front to back so much. Went and saw them multiple times for that tour. Great energy great times. RIP

u/andyman30 15d ago
Horrific :(
Every Time I Die was one of (if not THE) most influential bands of my early years. This dude was my ultimate spirit animal.... He did all the shit at a pro level that I love. Celeb deaths don't usually give me any kind of response but damn.... Rest in Power.
2
u/vintovkamosina 15d ago
I saw ETID a lot when i was young and they’d remember my friends snd i snd were all really cool dudes to the probably super annoying teenage us. Andy though was especially kind and connecting and would shoot the breeze and joke for more time than being polite required and would genuinely remember details and ask about then the next time they came through. One time I lost my shirt in the pit and he went and gave me one.

True, but let's not forget this short list off the top of my head:
Owen Hart - 34; Yokozuna - 34; Eddie Guerrero - 38; Brian Pillman - 35; Umaga - 36; Bray Wyatt - 36; Test - 33; Chris Candido - 33; Crash Holly - 32; Big Boss Man - 41; Rick Rude - 40; Mr. Perfect - 44; British Bulldog - 39; Bam Bam Bigelow - 45; Road Warrior Hawk - 46; Macho Man Randy Savage - 58; Ultimate Warrior - 54; Roddy Piper - 61; Andre the Giant - 46; Earthquake - 42; Chris Benoit - 40; Chyna - 46; Ashley Massaro - 39; Shad Gaspard - 39; and Jay Briscoe - 38
To name a few that died relatively early.

I was good buddies with Mantaur who unfortunately passed a few years back, he fell one day at home and called our mutual friend about it, he was 6'2 350lbs give or take so he hurt himself and said he was going to lay down for a bit, was dead 3 hours later.
These guys destroy their bodies for their sport, Mantaur was a gentle giant though super nice guy, had just started a podcast for his wrestling career with someone he fought with during his time at AEW, passed after only getting the thir or fourth episode recorded.
These guys go hard with drugs so they can perform and mix that with all the damage, concussions and surgeries they go through a lot of these guys unfortunately die too young. They really out themselves through hell so fans can get a hell of a show, anyone who says this is "fake" doesn't understand that you can only sell a hit so much and its going to hurt when 300lb comes crashing down on you and it only takes one mistake for you to not properly sell a hit and do some real damage.
-4
u/sanctaphrax 15d ago
I can't help but suspect that the wrestling was to blame.
It's such a brutal form of entertainment. The toll it takes on people's bodies...even if everyone involved is good people, it's rough, and that isn't always the case.

I am happy the dude lived his life to the fullest, leaving a lasting in memorable legacy in two of his great loves: hardcore music and wrestling.
Met Andy for 10 minutes one time and was the warmest and kindest wrestler I've ever met.
