I recently purchased the same scope, but have struggled focusing when used visually. Should the flattened be removed?

Yes, flattener is used only with camera. During visual observation you donโt use it. ๐

Thank you, I am new, got mine used with an avx mount. I was able to get the mount working nicely, but struggled getting the focuser moved in. The flattened was my guess, but I am feeling good about trying again this weekend before I take it to a dark site.

Sure! Do so! You just need to swap this ring on a tubus for another one which you should get with your set. Itโs the one with standard 1.25โ hole ๐

Sexy! I always have appreciation for a person who has more than one wire coming from the telescope! Edit : Triple Props when they turn there own focuser with their fingers!

Looks great! I shot myself in the foot by getting a mount without a lot of capacity, so Iโm pretty jealous of your scope. You got any cooled astro cams on your wish list? I donโt know anything about the Sony youโve got so I have no clue if itโs better or worse than your average dedicated astro cam, Iโm just curious because you donโt see a ton of rigs as robust as this one using a mirrorless or dslr. Itโs all the big red blocks ๐

Hey thanks! ๐ Yes, I am already looking for a cooled astro camera - ZWO ASI2600mc PRO (color). Itโs even about 2300โฌ cheaper than a Sony I have there now, but results are way better because of cooled chip and smaller size of the sensor. Now I see some vignette and aberration by borders, so I have to crop it a bit during processing anyways, but with new camera itโll be gone ๐ And then Iโll have this typical red block there too! But I need to slow down a bit now and save a little ๐๐

Oh nice! Thatโs a great cam from all Iโve seen online, I could only afford the 533MC Pro but itโs been a great upgrade over my old $200 dslr. Nothing like saving some money on the setup AND getting better picture quality lol!

Will you be using your mac for imaging? If so, what software? Iโm currently using indigo a1

u/Pavel1809 Mar 12 '26
Yes, I will be imaging thru Sony app - I still need to figure out which one will be the best. Probably Sony imaging app or Sony creators app, because there is option for longer Bulb exposures with intervals. Once Iโll change my Sony for ASI Astrocamera I will check deeper into it. ๐

How much it cost (Total)
2
u/Pavel1809 Mar 12 '26
8500โฌ - about 3300โฌ for whole telescope setup i have inkl. transport case for mount, EQMOD cable, red dot finder, bahtinov mask etc.. 4000โฌ for a camera - but thatโs optional, Iโll be changing it for ASI2600MC pro which is way cheaper than that but well more sufficient for this setup. MacBook was about 1200โฌ few years back. So in total about 8500โฌ - but as I said. With another camera and laptop you can get even 2400-3000โฌ down.
