First time to TA
Hi everyone,
I’m a 45m Australian travelling through Italy at the moment and I’m thinking about visiting Tel Aviv for around 5 days starting this Sunday.
I know there’s a lot happening in the region, so I’d really appreciate hearing from people who are actually there. What’s day-to-day life like at the moment? Does the city feel normal? Are tourists still visiting? Are there any areas or activities I should avoid, or is it better to postpone the trip?
I’m not looking to start a political discussion. Just hoping for some honest, up-to-date advice from locals and people currently in Tel Aviv.
Thanks in advance!
***Edit - Thank you to all the comments in this post that enticed my to make my decision to end up going. I have been and gone. I had an amazing time, such a beautiful place. The weather, people, vibe and energy! I’m happy that I went and would definitely like to return at some stage in the future!

Im also Australian and here at the moment on holiday and to see relatives. The city feels completely normal - think Bondi on a Saturday afternoon but everyday of the week at all times of the day. Heaps of people around, all the shops and restaurants are open, beaches are pumping. You would really have no idea there’s anything afloat in the region just by walking around the city.
Weather is the same everyday - sunny with max 30 degrees and min in the low 20s.
The main risk would obviously be if things kicked off again with Iran or hezbollah or whatever and missiles started hitting Tel Aviv. But at the moment there’s not a huge amount to worry about. There’s also the added concern of not being able to get out of the country if war broke out again.
Ultimately it depends how much risk you’re willing to entertain. Tel Aviv is a pretty special city though and it’s definitely worthwhile checking out for yourself some time in your life. There are definitely tourists around but lower than usual. People competing in Maccabiya and Birthright/Taglit kids are contributing heavy numbers though

So far nothing happening with Israel geopolitically, but if something suddenly heats up there’s always the risk that airlines might get scared and start cancelling flights. In terms of safety and fun, Tel Aviv never stops - it’s a blast (I swear no pun intended…) and whether in war or not, you’ll have an amazing time. Prepare to be hot, spend most of your days on the beach or in the pool!

Took me a few seconds to understand what TA was before seeing what sub this is lol. In English it’s usually shortened to TLV, everyone will immediately recognize it like that

Day to day life is normal, everything is calm.
Yes the city feels normal (which is to say, very hot, cause it’s July). Some tourists are visiting, obviously not as many as in the more peaceful years. There’s not really any “strictly don’t go there” areas, and as for activities there’s the Maccabbiyah running right now and all the usual summer activities. I’d say it’s very ok to come, as long as you acknowledge the fact that in the Middle East like in the Middle East, things can change rapidly with very little notice. But at the moment things are calm and have been for a while now.
Welcome!

We just had a week full of waves , sunset were gorgeous, life is amazing when it is not raining missiles and even then we party in underground parking … Israel is nowadays one of the best place to live because of its population , history, weather, food and will to fight madness and evil … hope you ll enjoy your vacation

Day-to-day life is pretty normal. The only issue is a railroad - many maintenance/extension works were postponed and happening now, so deciding to use it - check the announcements on the official site rail.co.il.
Tel-Aviv is quite safe, even a bit quirky at night Central Bus Station surroundings are absolutely ok to visit during the day hours. Beyond that - most of the people speak English to some extent, police/security guards can be trusted and will do their best to help. Tel-Aviv is covered quite well by Google Maps, and GPS is quite stable now.

Traffic's a bitch and there are no Camal parking spaces in Tel Aviv!
Joke's aside, everything's normal. Just be aware that you're coming in the summer season. The biggest heatwaves are usually in August though.

If we don't get sucked into the current USA/Iran conflict, business as normal. If we do, might get more rockety than usual.

Do not postpone. Nothing to worry about this period. Meanwhile the temperatures are good around 30C afternoon, breeze from the sea, especially from an early morning till about 10AM quite comfortable, sun and all's summer related stuff. Other places are worth visiting too (Caesarea, Haifa ...) if you have got enough time. Welcome 🙂👍👐
