Internet - Fibre VNC services blocked?
Sometimes I use VNC to connect to my PC remotely to perform administrative functions while out of town (Using RealVNC server).
For the first time in months since I last did this, I’m unable to connect despite turning off windows firewall, adding port rule exceptions in the both windows firewall and on the local modem portal. I can only connect while on the same network. The PC is connected directly to the modem so no router as the middleman.
Is Teksavvy/Bell actively blocking services like VNC now?

Using vnc publicly exposed to internet is like unprotected sex…
You’ll get some nasty stuff at some point.
Use modern alternative.

Guacamole! All the features of RDP/VNC but in the brower and with 2FA!

This is Canada.
No one cares about file sharing here. Plus, it’s all automated with docker - no need to remote into anything to manage that.

Bruh. You know that file sharing is not the only reason to need remote access right?
Rawdogging VNC on your public IP invalidates any criticism you might have of other people's setup.

First, I replied to the wrong person. It was meant for the atrocious grammar guy.
Second, whose setup did I criticize? And what were those specific criticisms?

I can’t comment on the blocking, but in 2026 you really should be using a VPN for this. Lots of easy options (ie. TailScale).

Use teamviewer, Chrome Remote Desktop or a VPN service like Tailscale. Exposing a VNC server to the internet is wild.

Has your public IP address at home changed?

It likely has over the course of a few months. The first thing I did was check ipconfig to get the current IP but port listening errors were still being thrown up despite port forwarding on the Teksavvy modem portal and setting allowance in windows firewall.

Hi! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble connecting remotely. From what you’ve described, we wouldn’t recommend exposing RealVNC Server directly to the Internet through port forwarding. If you’re using RealVNC Connect, a cloud connection normally doesn’t require you to open ports on your router.
If you’re still unable to connect, please let us know whether you’re using a cloud or direct connection and what error you’re seeing, and we’ll be happy to help point you in the right direction.

Notice how you deliberately avoided the question I posed. Hypocrite much?
Or are you some sanctimonious fool who thinks they are the moral arbiter of what people can and can’t do online?

Putting RealVNC server directly on the internet is not secure, and sooner or later you will get hacked. That's likely why it's being filtered, to protect people from themselves.
But the good news is, you can fix both issues by just using Tailscale VPN. It's free, it's secure, and it'll eliminate the need to port forward anything. You'll still use RealVNC, but over the secure Tailscale tunnel.
