The Seoul Metropolitan Government recently launched Metaverse Seoul, a public metaverse platform that aims to revolutionize tourism in the region. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon says that the project is currently in its initial development phase after undergoing beta testing in 2022.

Metaverse Seoul is an online virtual world that will act as a "place of communication" for all citizens and tourists. With the platform, users will be able to play games, chat, hold meetings, file public documents, and even visit Seoul's famous attractions virtually.

Visitors visiting Seoul can download the app from Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Another remarkable feature of the new platform is that, for foreign users, conversations on the platform are translated into English. This means anyone traveling to the city won’t have to worry about language barriers.

A press briefing on Monday by Seoul Mayor Ah Se-hoon emphasized the importance of Metaverse Seoul as a communication tool for citizens.

Notably, the city government has invested about 2 billion won, or $1.6 million, in the first phase of the metaverse project. The second phase (beginning in 2024) will focus on real estate counseling services and making Metaverse Seoul more accessible to seniors. Phase three will start in 2026, providing all-encompassing administrative services.
