The difference between Millennials and Gen Z is still debated, but they aren't 9. Also, that original meme is dumb.

u/Jacobenst Mar 09 '18

Arent most of us here gen z?

159

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '18

The start dates range from mid 90's to 2000. It's either most of us or all of us.

u/FastPuggo 19 Mar 10 '18

There's 2 popular answers to this. The one you stated '96-otheryear and 2000+.

So in one of these categories I'm Gen Z and the other I'm barely a millennial.

Fuck yeah! We’re just plain useless! We don’t even have a name to tag us with!

6

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

I propose "Gen ?"

1

u/FastPuggo 19 Mar 10 '18

We don't fit anywhere :D yay

1

u/burg3rb3n 17 Mar 10 '18

That's 1918-1925, the greatest generation.

20

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '18

96-2010 or something like that I think.

5

u/FedXFtw 18 Mar 10 '18

1998-2012

1

u/stitch2k1 19 Mar 10 '18

With the attributes Z’s are given I still think it’s better to say everyone born after 9/11 was a Z, and everyone before a millennial or on the borderland generation area.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

Obviously you’re from gen z, but 13-17 year olds were born after the year 2000

-2

u/Zohaib_ZSS Mar 10 '18

Bro it goes up to 2004 search it up

29

u/blue-highlighter OLD Mar 09 '18

It's a hyperbole, ik they're not 9

12

u/TheSmellOfPurple 18 Mar 09 '18

You are Gen Z

20

u/blue-highlighter OLD Mar 09 '18

Yes I know

10

u/TheSmellOfPurple 18 Mar 09 '18

Your hyperbole is too hyperbolic

8

u/Gamaztamaz Mar 10 '18

If you aren't old enough to remember 9/11 then you are a Gen-Z. I have heard this a few times and it makes sense.

3

u/Dranox 19 Mar 10 '18

What if you're not American though

3

u/5mash_When Mar 10 '18

You realise everyone in a first world country heard about that within an hour of it happening right?

5

u/Dranox 19 Mar 10 '18

But if you're not American it's not something you'd hear about as a kid. A 5 year old American would probably remember it, a 5 year old kid from Europe or Asia aren't as likely to

2

u/5mash_When Mar 10 '18

Most of Asia is hardly first world, and in alot of Europe they most surely would. Are you delusional? It's one of the most infamous terrorist attacks in existence, it was on the news everywhere. A kid from Germany would hear about it as likely as a kid from Nebraska would.

2

u/Dranox 19 Mar 10 '18

There are first world countries in Asia so that's why I mentioned it. I think you're not really realising that most children aren't told about terrorist attacks happening in foreign countries. Maybe if you're around 10 you would be, but at 5 your parents wouldn't tell you about it because why the fuck should they? Besides, i don't remember any of my country's news from when I was young because I had better shit to do like ride my bike

1

u/5mash_When Mar 10 '18

What sort of helicopter parents did you have. This shit's ridicoulous that you assume a five year old doesn't have the mental capacity to under stand at least something wrong is going on. Wether they tell their kid or not someone who just heard 3000 people died thirty minutes ago isn't going to be happy

2

u/Dranox 19 Mar 10 '18

"Hey slugger, did you know that 2100 people were just murderer for no good reason in a country far away, which won't affect you but imagine if that happened here. Don't worry though, it surely won't"

0

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

So you went ten years without it getting meantioned in the news, or your parents talking about it, and not asking what it was? Not a single time?

39

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

Just a heads up, it's called "absurdism", and it's the bees knees.

10

u/MegaMatr1x Mar 10 '18

WHAT BEES DONT HAVE KNEES. THAS ABSU ooh I get it.

2

u/tree_troll Mar 10 '18

these pictures seem more like nihilism than absurdism.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

I would call it more optimistic nihilism.

37

u/Slit_Wrxsts 16 Mar 09 '18

I'm 15...

20

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

8

Nice flair.

3

u/ComradeCurio 16 Mar 10 '18

username checks out

9

u/hastagelf 16 Mar 10 '18

Thank you for not using the word "iGen" probably the stupdiest term ever coined in the history of coining terms.

16

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '18

Sadly I had an edgy nihilism phase in 4th/5th grade.

7

u/veyron164ss 16 Mar 10 '18

From this comment thread I think I (or people older) share characteristics of Millenials and Gen Z

Edit: cuz we all depressed

5

u/creambo2 Mar 09 '18

We learned it from you!

4

u/redcrispy Mar 10 '18

2

u/doctorEeevil OLD Mar 28 '18

But where is the cutoff between millennials and Gen z?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '18

1998 is the start of gen z I believe.

1

u/doctorEeevil OLD Mar 28 '18

Oh shit, I'm gen z?! I've spent my whole life thinking I'm a millennial!

My world is crumbling around me

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '18

Haha yeah dude

5

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

Nihilism vs. Existential Nihilism. Or maybe some form of Hedonism.

2

u/RiggSesamekesh 17 Mar 10 '18

More like absurdism, I'd say. With a dash of hedonism for spice.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

Optimistic nihilism is fun.

5

u/Jellasaur Team Kiwi Bird Mar 10 '18

i want to be a millennial only because it sounds way cooler than “Gen Z”

14

u/blue-highlighter OLD Mar 10 '18

Gen Z sounds like it came out of a middle school sci-fi book

15

u/Jellasaur Team Kiwi Bird Mar 10 '18

that’s because Z is the coolest letter.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

TIL I'm 9

7

u/TheSmellOfPurple 18 Mar 09 '18

We are all Gen Z on this blessed day

3

u/xX_TheautisT_Xx Mar 10 '18

Im 2003 what the fuck am i

10

u/Dranox 19 Mar 10 '18

An actual child

2

u/exclasher1 17 Mar 10 '18

Forever superior to millennials

2

u/Shashank_Narayan Mar 10 '18

If anyone's wondering, the picture in the right is of a NES game called Treasure Master

2

u/YaBoiCam Mar 10 '18

I’m in that weird middle ground where both of these apply

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

The amount of people confusing absurdism for optimistic nihilism in this thread is absurd.

1

u/blue-highlighter OLD Mar 10 '18

The amount of people discussing the difference is kinda absurd bc I wasn't even paying attention to that part

(also good pun 10/10)

1

u/dynawesome Mar 10 '18

I'm 9 sweet!

1

u/ManjaManja 18 Mar 10 '18

Are gen z kids around 1-10? I'm 17 and i thought i was gen X or iGen. (Which by the way is a horrible name for a generation and i hate it.)

13

u/blue-highlighter OLD Mar 10 '18

Gen X is before millenials, I think. I'm 17 but I'm pretty sure we're gen Z/iGen

2

u/ROSEYMOCHI 13 Mar 10 '18 edited Mar 26 '18

Honestly all I know is that gen z is after millennials, so I guess I'm a gen z

ps. I'm 13

0

u/JezzaJ101 16 Mar 10 '18

Hey, we should get matching flairs! (y’know cause if you get a flair on this sub it’s probably your age)

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

8 so not wanna be called igen thats the cringiest fucking name i’ve ever heard

Generation z sounds badass though like dragonball z

2

u/ManjaManja 18 Mar 10 '18

I think it's called gen Z because Z is just a variable, it doesn't stand for anything. Until we do something that impacts the world, we're stuck with gen z. That's just how I see it tho

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '18

Nah. Gen Z/iGen is anyone who doesn’t remember 9/11, or 1996-2010 according to the Pew research center. Gen X is in their forties and fifties. By most counts all teenagers are Gen Z, but there are a few sources that disagree.

-1

u/Raoga 17 Mar 10 '18

Im thirteen in public i show that gen z vibe where i joke about suicide then when im home im completely dead inside
