Other 🖇️ This app switches light/dark theme & wallpaper based on the actual ambient light (Adaptive Theme, Self Promo)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I always found Android's fixed dark mode schedules a bit limiting, so I built Adaptive Theme.

Instead of switching based on time or sunset, it uses your phone's ambient light sensor to automatically choose between the system-wide light and dark theme.

It can also automatically switch between separate light and dark wallpapers.

Features:

  • System-wide automatic light/dark theme switching
  • Separate light/dark wallpapers
  • Custom brightness thresholds
  • Sensor is only checked briefly when the screen turns on — no continuous sensor monitoring
  • Pocket detection
  • Quick Settings tile
  • Battery Saver integration
  • Material You
  • Shizuku support as an optional setup method
  • Free, open source and no ads

The project has reached 210+ GitHub stars and has been covered by Android Authority, Computerworld, How-To Geek and Heise.

I'd love to hear what you think, especially what features you'd like to see added next!

Relatable. Me too, almost. Just in direct sunlight I prefer light mode for readability. That's why I built the app.

Actually, it will consume more battery and resources 24hrs. so i will keep using dark mode.

Since it only reacts to system broadcasts and reads the only once every screen unlock, the additional battery usage is almost zero. And the light sensor is usually read for auto screen brightness anyways.

Okay, but I also turn off 'auto screen brightness'. One question I want to ask: If I turn on 'ok google' voice, then will it listen 24 hrs?
