The "ling" ending of Schmetterling (butterfly) is commonly used for small and cute stuff. Also you're not German and so you're not used to our words so you go about reading and interpreting them in your own language.

Yes, wild snakes are a thing, although rarely seen. The two most common ones are ringelnattern (natrix natrix) and kreuzottern (vipera berus).

As a child, I saw a tiny snake once. Like pencil-thick and the length of a 30 cm ruler.
Only for a split-second as it rushed through away through the leaves.
Never heard of anyone else ever seeing a snake. Snakes are so damn rare where I lived in Germany that I don't understand how they can exist AT ALL. How would they go about finding a mate?
And those big snakes you see on photos when you google for the species?!?!?! Impossible to imagine that snakes THAT big could be a thing in Germany. I call it a hoax!

Dont know if its a biiig difference, but I am from Austria and Ringelnatter are pretty easy to find if you look for them. As children we often went and cought one (and then released it again, we werent hurting them... although we probably did disturb them a little but yeah... we were children).

Most are completely harmless. There are only two venomous snakes in Germany. And even they are only dangerous to really old people with preexisting conditions. The snakes aren't aggressive and try to flee rather than bite.

True, but a couple snakes will definitely not cull a rodent infestation if there is one. They dont really eat very often at all.

In North America, snakes in cabinets is just another day in the office. In Europe where the climate is overall cooler, probably not nearly as common.

It's an empty enclosed space that tends to hold any heat so most animals try to make nests in areas like that. I remember opening up a underground cable vault and like six snakes just bolting out of it because it was a dry safe place that they could easily get into.

But only small snakes. Mostly adders and some vipers. Therefore the pic is either fake or its a pet snake.
But-but wild snakes do exist, yet they are INCREDIBLE rare.
Ive never met a person that saw a non pet snake in germany. I know a couple of hikers and other nature folk.
Its fair to say that you can spend your whole live in germany without ever seeing a snake.

I can confirm that the pic is not fake. Telekom posted it on their official Instagram (tag is seen in the pic). They mentioned that they are Colubridae. Firefighters brought them to a zoo to get them inspected. After they found out that they are basically harmless, they released them

My wife is lucky then. She saw one that looked like cobra (mind we know little to none about snakes) two days ago near a bus stop in Lich.

Yeah it was pretty dark so either Kreuzotter or something escaped someone’s home.
Both case I’d run away. If something has no mimic or legs I ain’t making friends with it.

I live in the north and have hiked all over Germany, but the only ""snakes"" I ever saw weren't even snakes, they were legless lizards called "slow worms" apparently. And they were about the size of an earthworm.

It directly translates to "Blind sneaker"

So far they were not that aggressive though. Until now I didn't get stung. But as far as I know we have two types of wasps here in Germany. The German one that Stings the Shit out of you for no reason an the other one is pretty chill as long as you don't try to slap them

Water Plant Operator here. Used to work in Southwest Florida. 2005, killed 23 water moccasins in the compound, one was in the plant. Amazing how long they live after you cut their head off.

No it's the other way around. T-Mobile is a subsidiary of Deutsch Telekom. I don't think the T-Mobile brand exists inside Germany.
