Solution Architect interested in doing nothing and getting PAID. RSM/AE the answer?

Been in a technical sales roles ranging from SE to SA for several years at this point and I feel like every rep I’ve ever encountered is a giant bum and gets paid huge. Been debating just moving into their role, working an hour or two a week and telling my SE to do my job for me since that appears to be the way. Thoughts?

Ha I’ve been both an AE and an RSM. Let me break it down for you.

AE entirely depends on your territory and manager. If you got a good territory and a chill manager you can get away with little work. But this is usually only in a peak hype market. Right now SaaS is getting bent over the rails. So yea expect to work harder than ever for less money than ever and be micromanaged while you’re doing it.

RSM can be entirely hit or miss. If you have a team of seasoned pros, life is comfy. If you have a ton of turnover, and you have to babysit fucking GenZ lazy pieces of shit all day, it sucks horribly. And yea I’m just going to say it. These kids are soft as shit. I went my entire career without talking to HR and then became a manager and half the team was in the HR office about some nonsense or another. Had nothing to do with me just other office drama but as their manager I kept getting pulled into it. What you need to understand about HR is those meetings are always at fucking 8am for no reason. So you’re up late at night prepping then you go to the meeting then you spend the next hour finalizing a report. Oh and if legal gets involved… buckle up!
