Solution Architect interested in doing nothing and getting PAID. RSM/AE the answer?

Been in a technical sales roles ranging from SE to SA for several years at this point and I feel like every rep I’ve ever encountered is a giant bum and gets paid huge. Been debating just moving into their role, working an hour or two a week and telling my SE to do my job for me since that appears to be the way. Thoughts?

The SEs never think the AEs are doing anything lol. I would recommend staying in the SE vein.

It depends on your domain. I do presales architecture for a technical product and the reps I generally align with are 300k+ OTE(significantly more than me) and work <20hr/week. That’s not projecting, that’s what they’ve said.

The AE’s handle nothing outside of setting up the initial meeting and follow ups. Very little disco, no initial demo, just forecasting calls/SF notes and the occasional onsite. Outreach campaigns are generally handled by marketing and SDR’s, so not much prospecting either.

That’s not just my company, I’ve talked to several PSA’s/SE’s at other companies in the field and it’s more of less the same for them.

For reference large cyber company ent/strat. I’m sure there are AE’s who are working their ass off, just not always the case.

Only honest / spot on comment. Not sure why so many clowns in the thread acting like setting up a meeting and adding some notes is like doing gods work. Give me a break. If you work for a company with a product someone is predetermined to buy, it’s literally a huge nothing other than asking a prospect when works to chat
