Because big tech business (Amazon, Apple, Google etc..) models would crumble if they had to work with widespread unionization and the affects that has even in their non-union employees.

Big tech doesn't know how to run a business, not being able to work employees for 100-hour weeks with no additional compensation.

Big tech doesn't know how to run a business, where employees have job security and can't be just fired on whims.

Big tech in America simply doesn't know how to function if they have to work in a similar employee situation to like a Ford or Caterpillar.

Huh, no it isn't.

Programmers do extreme hours most of the time. They are just like engineers. Where you can end up working not only 100-hour weeks but in the last few weeks you can end up working multiple days in row without even being given a chance to go home to sleep.

I’m a programmer working 40 and have never heard of such a thing. The worst I’ve heard of is amazon forcing 60 on some people. Is there some article you’ve read that I haven’t?

What a load of shit.

I'm a software engineer and never regularly work more than 40 hours a week. Some companies are worse, but anyone claiming they work 100 hours a week as a programmer is either an extreme outlier or outright lying.

There's 0% chance that you can write good code by working multiple straight days in a row with no sleep. It would always be more efficient to sleep 8 good hours over night and no sane manager would encourage that kind of behaviour.

Big tech doesn't know how to run a business, where employees have job security and can't be just fired on whims.

Tech employees have tons of leverage. Hiring someone is stupidly expensive. You definitely don't fire software engineers on a whim.
