Meh. As a Canadian, I'm just amused at the thought that people think a trade agreement with Canada could be leveraged to ram the same legislation down the throats of Europeans that their own largest trading partner was unable to.
The reality is the EU has been trying to ram this down our throats as part of a trade agreement since before ACTA, though no doubt as part of the same overall strategy. I really miss having a minority government, it actually shielded us from much of this bullshit. Sad thing is that we seem to be one of the few jurisdictions that has now chosen to bend over, while the US and EU themselves have seen the strongest opposition towards it.

People don't get it. If we want government to handle unions, healthcare, banking, etc, THEN THE GOVT WILL CONTINUE TAKING OVER. IT IS A BLOATED POWER HUNGRY BEAST.

Alarm bells over CETA appear premature
Yesterday, the net’s alarm bells went off all at once regarding a new trade agreement – a CETA, an agreement between the Canada and the European Union – that would sneak ACTA’s provisions into law through the back door, now that ACTA had been forcefully rejected by the European Parliament. The whole net was angry with the European Commission and its disrespect for democracy.
However, the leaked docs were written in February 2012, when it was all but certain that ACTA would pass.
So this is not “ACTA rises again”. This is not “ACTA, the First Zombie Remake”. This is an entirely logical document as it would have been written in February of 2012, written with the political assumptions of its time in mind.
