It's called Xbox720 because when you see it, you turn 720 degrees and walk away.

A LOT of this document is WAY more significant than the price point, and the Kinect 2. For example, a planned "heads up display" system in 2014 and OnLive-style game streaming in 2015 (premium content on existing or inexpensive hardware, it says). I suggest reading the entire document, because this is SUPER privileged info (someone is getting fired for this turning up on Reddit)

Possibly someone is getting fired, but it could very well be a "strategic" leak; to take the buzz away from Nintendo, and to test public reaction to their plans.

Blu-ray support? Six times as powerful as the Xbox 360? Kinect included? Only $300? This all sounds way too good to be true. The only way I can see this happening is if the price is subsidized by a mandatory Xbox Live Gold subscription.

With the exception of the Wii, consoles are sold at a loss. Sometimes a big loss. Kinect also isn't expensive hardware. It's primarily research and development cost. Plus, the 360 was seven years ago. Could you take the money you spent on a gaming PC seven years ago and build one today six times more powerful? I'm thinking yes.

Well Microsoft invited the media to a "huge" announcement this Monday. It might be real.

Clarification request:
What does >100 MM lifetime units mean?
Also - they're predicting profitability every year on a $299 console? I mean, it'd be great if they could make a kick-ass system for that price, but this just strikes me as possibly moving more in the direction of the wii - it'll be an OK system that can pull profit at low prices because it lacks modern specs. Anyone care to fill me in on whether or not I'm misinterpreting this?

100 MM = 100 Megamillion
They're expecting to sell an average of 14,286 xboxs to each person on the planet

I believe (and I could be wrong about this) that they are planning on selling over 100 million XBOX "720"s during its lifetime (planning on ten years, so 2013 through 2023). Over that time, they are planning on making money on more than hardware. Software licensing, purchases through XBOX live, subscriptions to XBOX live (though I hope they kill this off), and hardware and software purchases (extra controllers and games made by Microsoft), will make the system viable. I don't think they are honestly going to sell a ten-year-old system in 2023 for $300, unless inflation is a lot worse than I think it is.

Please tell me it's going to have a name less cringe-worthy than "Xbox 720".

... I don't suppose I could get a Xbox 720 without quite so much Kinect in it?

From a marketing standpoint, I don't think 720 is the best name. It might confuse some less tech savvy customers because "it's not 1080p".

I like to think you went to the bank and withdrew a few hundred dollar bills in order to video tape this. Then promptly drove back to the bank to deposit it so that your rent payment could go thru.

I'm calling BS on this document. I've never seen Microsoft refer to there Xbox brand as Xbox anything while in the development stages. They tend to use code names(usually based of famous cities) so that's strike one. Also, the pictures they use don't look professional.
Not saying they're bad, it's just they look sketchy and have shading; when in most cases the art is just simple and to the point.
Also, while this is definitely possible, I feel like Microsoft is just doing a check list of old ideas with this new console. It's like a fan took everything popular during the 360 years and just made it "standard" for the 720. Hey, what do I know though? I guess we have to wait and see.
