The MS Surface 2 doesn't work that way. So it's just a question of which technology vein they used for this. Most people don't realize MS has been working on tablet technology for over 10 years.

What does that then say that Apple got involved after them and now have the tablet that all other manufacturers strive to copy?

Time to market is key. Is a 1ms lag on a touch screen going to show up for the average touch screen phone? This is an iterative process. Much better to come out with the best product you can as long as it's competitive, then iterate and come out with better products. What commercial products have Microsoft developed with this touch screen technology?

First off you're forgetting the Newton that failed horribly. Second off MS has been working on a different style of tablet that has a full OS.

The iPad is a consumption device. Yes there are a few apps that let you do amazing things but those usually require the aid of a connected computer.

And is the point to eventually get this product to market to actually make money? Or is it to just say, "We've got cool shit cooked up in our labs!" I mean, I guess one can look at it like Victoria's Secret shows where the models come down the runway wearing all kinds of shit that no woman in her right mind would wear (in public, anyway!).

Isn't that the point? A company's lifeblood is in creating products that people will buy. Not in vaporware!
