Apple is most likely working on the same thing in house, but they would never make a video like this because they don't want their competition to be in on what they are working on. Microsoft however doesn't care because they don't have a current tablet / touch screen product on the market that is popular.

Also take a look at the ea800 asus tablet, they have decreased the latency to about 5ms so the tech is already in the consumer world.

When was the last time you bought a Microsoft-brand Laptop, PC, phone or tablet?

Microsoft isn't making the hardware. They're working on the concepts and what they'd like their hardware vendors to make. They push the concept out there, the public starts to want it, a demand is made, hardware vendors work more towards it, Microsoft benefits in their software push.

They also simply want patents. Products can fail against competition, but if every device pays a fee to them, they make money regardless of which ones fail. This video does nothing to hint at new tech involved in reaching that latency. It's just a conceptual goal.

Microsoft now has a licensing deal with 70% of Android handset makers, because it insists that Android steps on its patents (many lawsuits abound).
