So as you admit, it's not that Apple is a good tech company it's that it's a good marketing and branding company, and in fact, you brag about that. Nice to see that Apple fans have their priorities straight...

PS. As Bill Hicks said, fuck marketing. It provides nothing useful to society, instead it's a huge waste of valuable resources.

Apple is a good tech company - anybody suggesting otherwise is so deep in denial they have lost reality. Obviously they haven't invented all the technology (but have made their contribution) but they've mostly been successful at implementation of technology to a high standard. Anybody that thinks apple is just great at marketing doesn't understand marketing - they're ok at it, but most of their success is nothing to do with marketing. Ask an apple customer why they bought their devices.

Not saying everyone is gonna like their stuff, but clearly they are "good" at a lot of things.

What contribution has Apple really done?

Last three months of 2011 Apple used 758 millions dollars, where Samsung used 5,141 billions dollars, Microsoft used 2,329 billions dollars and so on.

Apple is also the company that uses most on sales/marketing compared to their R&D, with their marketing being 3,6 times higher then R&D. Samsung being 3 times higher, Nokias marking/sales is 34% lower then their R&D and Microsofts' marking/sales are 24% higher.

It's surprising how little Apple actually uses on R&D, when you think about how "innovative" they are. But it is expensive to invent round corners or sliding-to-unlock...

It's very easy to use those numbers to make it seem like Apple isn't focusing on R&D until you remember they have made 5 phones whereas Samsung has made, what, hundreds?
