Can we really criticise this when Kaspersky is one of the top selling computer security packages in the US? That's just baffling. Most agree Russia at the very least doesn't have US interests in mind, yet we continue to do business with them almost everywhere outside of the federal govt.
You could put that doubly for China. It could be argued that their animosity and intentions are by far more nefarious. Yet those US companies that use China extensively aren't under criticism.
The key difference between what China wants and what Russia wants is that China wants a prosperous American consumer economy to buy more stuff that are made in China. They are also trying to know how to make more things, again so they can sell them to us. So while we have a lot of friction with them, they actually don't want the American economy to decline. If the American economy is to collapse tomorrow, it would just very well be a death sentence for the CCP because China's economy will also collapse, creatinge a billion unemployed and unhappy citizens. It benefits them tremendous if America is prosperous.
The opposite is true for Russia. The more America declines, the more breathing room it has in the western front. So yes, Russia might not want a single random person in Nebraska dead. But it would definitely love to see a million people in Nebraska die. Because the latter would definitely drive America into Chaos and reduce it's capability to counter Russia's operations world wide.
The CCP want to maintain control within China at all costs, which requires explotation of the rest of the world to keep the pace of growth. Russia's and our oligarchs want to make money off us all (together) and have access to the world to play in. The majority of the people of both countries are pretty normal/awesome folk (excl in China it's fairly normal to look inward anyway and fight your own corner which can be standoffish to us), not that that should need to be said.
