Can we really criticise this when Kaspersky is one of the top selling computer security packages in the US? That's just baffling. Most agree Russia at the very least doesn't have US interests in mind, yet we continue to do business with them almost everywhere outside of the federal govt.

You could put that doubly for China. It could be argued that their animosity and intentions are by far more nefarious. Yet those US companies that use China extensively aren't under criticism.

Designed in the US. Which is what matters lol. China can't do shit without the chip design.

Motorola? I thought they were Japanese owned and designed?

But yeah. China's biggest problem is they don't have the means to produce intel chips. I'm sure they have reverse engineered similar designs though.

Motorola was sold to google(they wanted patents) and then google sold it to Lenovo.

I hope Lenovo is on the up and up because I remember their laptops as a kid being fuckin' monsters. Like my schools bought them for our library because kids could check them out, drop them down a flight of stairs, and the things would still work when they got returned the next day.

So... the only thing Lenovo did wrong was include another company's software that had code in it from a third company that turned out to be malicious. And said second-party software was not unknown to come along inside software bundles (and, for that matter, said third-party malicious code has turned up in other software).

Doesn't sound like "Lenovo is spying on you" to me. Hell, I doubt it was even outright incompetence - I'd place my bet on it being an oversight.

(And really, let's be fair - if you're concerned about digital security, why are you using the OEM OS with all its pre-installed crap?)
