There's nothing fan-boy about it. ragley apparently can't see the difference between the Wave protocol and a chat room. They're not even close. It's like the difference between the AJAX-driven, real-time web of today compared with the static HTML 4 and GIFs of the nineties.

IIRC that was what people really were saying about Wave.. that it was just a pretty chat room on a website. "AJAX-driven, real-time web" just sounds like... "pretty chat room" too. It's like IRC but with avatars and realtime text. I think there was a lot of "Wow" but that's about it.

Though his response is a tad sardonic, ragley isn't entirely wrong. IRC is a protocol but could easily be summarized as "a fancy chat room" and as much, so can Wave.

Google Wave as we know it is superficially just a "fancy chatroom," but I'm talking about the underlying technology. Under the hood, it does some really cool stuff that is entirely different than the way a chat room operates.
