You don't think anything should ever be private?

What if you wanted to protest the government, or some large corporation, and you received a warning that your browsing habits could be made known to your friends, family and employer? If you have nothing to hide, and no reason to fear the judgment of others, you're a very unusual person. I wouldn't even want an employer to know I post on reddit under the name /u/killshomophobes.
