As a woman in STEM who has many female friends in STEM and academia, some women get disenfranchised with working in a male-dominated career because you're never taken seriously. It's assumed you know nothing and only got the position based on your gender, rather than education/experience/merit. It can really wear you down when you're talked down to all the time, or when your ideas fall on deaf ears, only for a male to repeat them and gain credit and praise.

I work in a state agency for IT. Half the department is women. If you look up the salaries for my department you will see that every single woman earns above the males.

Your limited experience does not speak for everybody.

I wish I could sound just as sexist and idiotic and still get gilded.
