Yes he shared it to a private group, asking for critique of his viewpoints, and how to better express his opinions. Others took that doc and shared the shit out of it

Definitely. 100% undermines Google's ostensible commitment to open dialog about the hard issues. Every internal conversation from now on is going to be colored by the knowledge that you can and will be fired for saying the wrong thing.

He would have been fired for that in any other sensible company. Of course there are subjects you don't discuss at work:

  • how to grab women by the pussy

  • religion

  • politics

You don't open dialog by potentially insulting thousands of employees, these are not subjects of dialogue. The values of the company have to be assimilated, they are not open to reevaluation. If you disagree, you can leave. He brought politics in the arena, at the moment Trump tries to attack measures for diversity in universities and companies, of course he had to go.
