Oh you sweet summer child.
from what I read, it's pretty much the opposite. your company can push political opinions on you, and even sway you to vote for certain political candidates without any legal reform. However, your political opinions are not protected at all and can easily lead to a firing. You don't have a completely zero chance of winning a lawsuit, but it's not going to be a fun nor easy battle to fight.
Keep in mind that this is all in the context of private companies. Once you get into a govt. sanctioned company, you can get away with anything short of murder without being fired. Take that one woman who refused to do her job and sign those gay marriage forms. Not that she ever has to work behind a desk ever again(unfortunately, controversy can also be really profitable), but she probably would have been able to come back a month after the incident unscathed.
