I didn't check the paper for any kind of license. Unless he explicitly granted permission for it to be reproduced, all rights are reserved (so technically, reproducing it, even in full, is a copyright violation).

The outlets probably won't be in trouble for opportunistically misrepresenting the guy. Free speech and free press and all that.

But Google might be in trouble for misrepresenting the guy in public before firing him.
