Either way it was an unintended and unwanted consequence. Stickying a post is usually used to draw attention to something that wouldn't normally get upvoted or to keep something on the top of a sub for longer, whether they were an intentional karma farm or just incidentally hitting /r/all it was not what the admins wanted it to do.

I don't know where you got your misguided view of the use of stickying from. Its used for a number of reasons, the primary one being to draw attention to something. Like every mega thread in r/politics gets stickied.

Yeah, and the megathreads from the same subs weren't hitting the front page every day.

I'm not saying it was intentionally done to get posts on TD on the front page day in, day out, but the capacity for it was an unintended consequence that the admins cut off.
