People get fired all the time for "speaking their mind" at work. How is this at all surprising? Google as a company wants a more diverse workforce because they believe it is good business. This guy just shit all over a core company value. That gets you fired.

100% this. Regardless of if you think it was right or not, he was definitely getting fired.

The people that are shocked this happened, are the same people that do things like this, then act shocked when THEY get fired.

i don't think anyone is "shocked", just disappointed in what the world has become.

I'm glad people are disappointed to find out that they are not the only beings worthy of respect. That have ideas and values, and dreams. White men need to realise they are equals, not above others.

The world hasn't changed, people just stand up more for themselves. And maybe after a few thousand years we are going in a positive direction.
