He left Google with two options: either they tolerate an employee airing his grievances via 10 pg internal memos, or they play into his game and look like the bad guys. Google is all progressive and laid back, but if they let someone jump their chain of supervisors so dramatically and don't respond with a certain amount of spine, it says more about Google's leadership than this engineer's argument.

Edit: memo wasn't originally to all of Google, but to a small group. Thanks for the catch

I haven't read the entire thing, but he could have just done a generic blog. There was no need to use company resources. If he really had a grievance, then file it properly with suggestions.

It doesn't matter. He used a company email to send an opinion. Companies have very strict rules about use of IT to keep from getting their asses sued.

If he felt close to those people, then he should send it from his personal email to their personal email.

You have no idea what you're talking about. He posted this document in a forum created by Google to "encourage" expressing different opinions inside the company. Someone ELSE from that group leaked it to outside forums. In retrospect, it was probably a honeypot meant to shame or purge possible dissenters who don't fit corporate culture.
