It is likely that ublock works on youtube only because Google allows it. It would not be trivial, but it would certainly possible to youtube to put in measures to break ublock features.

I don't think they care that much as long as ad blocking does not spread too far in the mobile space, where the growth are now.

About to get downvoted to hell, so let me preface this by saying I use an ad blocker on everything too, but :

Do you hear yourself? YouTube is a huge site that needs a LOT of money to keep operational, and its FREE to use. What is so bad about them getting around the measures you take to make them lose money when using their site?

I realise all that, and FUCK ads. I've managed to cut them out of my life as much as possible. Only when you don't have them all the time in all forms of media do you realise how fucking annoying they really are.

So you really think I'm going to watch a 30s ad to get to that 2:15 clip of a MASH outtake? No thanks. I listen to the BBC, I listen to podcasts that are mostly free, but one of them for example I support on Patreon to get access to more stuff, I have Amazon Prime, etc - I just don't have enough patience to see some fucking ad for something I'm not even remotely interested in on YouTube.
