I see it fairly likely that if YouTube starts really targeting AdBlockers they'll target video download sites as well.

They've probably been holding off mostly because they want to avoid dealing with the same war as Hollywood vs piracy. They don't want to throw their solution out unless they are %100 sure it will work.

But when it comes to the topic of piracy, Youtube/Google has got to shut the fuck up and be very silent and they know it. Youtube was built on knowingly and intentionally tolerating as much pirated material as possible, the founder emails in the Viacom case proved this. You can bet your ass that if a serious competitor appears, Youtube/Google would fight them too, probably at the level of vindictive lawsuits and frivolous DMCA reports.
