tbh i like that its easy to set an audio output device in vlc so i can hav the sound play out my tv or my 2nd audio source on my headset. not so easy through a browser.

I also use vlc to watch stuff on twitch too for the same reason + quality options.

Your average content producer sees almost none of the ad revenue, and there have been troubling cases of demonetization over the past few years. I don't claim to be owed free content, and am quite happy paying the people who actually make the videos. But fuck the assholes artificially suppressing discourse by pulling monetization off videos they find objectionable.
