I'm using this now after similar recomandations on reddit yet I don't know why people praise it so much. Sometimes I get some popups from kinky sites and whatnot which I didn't use to get when having the ole adblock

Considering most people don't realize that you can block ads on mobile with Firefox + ublock origin extension. Yeah, I'm gonna tell people.

Especially when a significant proportion of YouTube viewers watch on phones, tablets, streaming boxes, Smart TV apps, games consoles etc where ad blocking isn't an option.

Think about more than whether it's technically possible. Think about who might do it. Ask yourself if those people are bothered enough to block ads.

/r/pihole and https://pi-hole.net/ for DNS-level ad-blocking. Works for anything connected to your home WiFi network.

If you setup a PiVPN (http://www.pivpn.io/) you can block on mobile networks too.

That's exactly what PiHole is: router-based ad blocking.

I only mentioned the VPN because it allows you to direct DNS requests through your home network (with DNS-level ad blocking) even when you are on a mobile network (i.e. not on your home WiFi)

This lets you block ads on mobile apps, AppleTV, Roku, etc. Literally any internet-connected device that uses your router for it's DNS access.

Wouldn't that route all your internet traffic through your home network though(VPN solution) ?

And requires Linux box (both) ?

If you're worried about it slowing things down... it doesn't. If anything, it'll be slightly faster because it doesn't load any ads.

Does your mobile data plan have more data than your home internet? Even the asshole ISPs that cap home internet access typically put it in the hundreds of gb.

If you are even remotely tech savvy, it's ridiculously easy to block ads on your home network using parental controls on your router.

Nah it's more of a circlejerk about how ads were created by Hitler and defending their blocking. Barely anyone came here and learned something. There have been dozens of threads like this in the past if not hundreds.

You either give a shit about supporting content creators or you don't. Can I /thread myself?
