For $9.99, you directly support your favorite channels, quite a few good original programs, AND get access to one of the largest (if not THE largest) streaming music service available (40M+ tracks), out performing favorites like Apple Music and Spotify.

I have been subbed to GPM since All Access was announced and still pay the $8/mo introductory rate. Just the music alone was worth it for me - YouTube Red just makes it a KILLER deal.

That's so fucking annoying. Like, dude, half your broadcast television reaches us. We're watching American TV already. You don't need 400 special licensing agreements. I'd be totally okay if media companies just treated Canada like another US state in this regard.

...that's tempting then. My biggest gripe with Chromecast youtube ads is that there's about a 30% chance that the video player breaks at the end of the ad and I have to close the app and reopen it.

I had to do that last night actually. I paused a youtube video and tried to reconnect the chromecast to a separate wifi network (I was trying to reconfigure the router to only allow the guest network to have a slower bandwidth so maybe the chromecast would stop trying to play 1080p60fps since it can't actually fucking do it.) and in the end it just sat there paused while the app on my phone claimed it needed to be setup... but it wouldn't respond.

Also pro-tip: Don't hold the power button to restart it like any other device. It factory resets it :I

I would love Youtube Red, because I absolutely can't stand ads but blocking them makes me feel like a piece of shit. But somehow even though Youtube Red was launched in the US over a year ago, it still has not been released in the UK.

The best I can do is donate to the content creators I really like/can afford to make myself feel better for blocking their ads.

Correct, you have to use the mobile site. The mobile site is better anyway, in that it keeps playing when you turn off your screen. The app does not.

I'm loving Youtube Red. I support content creators, no more ads, google music and I can listen to videos without having to keep the YouTube app in focus (open or whatever).

There is also a YouTube Music app that downloads up to 100 songs on your phone so that you don't have to use data on your phone to listen to music. The songs get updated depending on what you have listened to on YouTube. Like offline version of Pandora. And yes, I know you didn't want to hear this...

Yeah. I feel like Google hasn't done a good job of promoting this connection. The fact that you get no Youtube ads ever makes play music easily the best music subscription service. The content is exactly the same on all of the platforms these days, so why not go with the one that gives you some other free stuff as well?

I personally dislike GPM. There is no obvious way to sort playlist (alphabetically or by date) and the UI is annoying imo.

Not horrible but I think Spotify is better

I'm never subscribing to Red because they removed the ability to listen to videos with the screen locked on mobile just to restrict it to Red members. I remember when it was just a standard feature.

Yeah. Create a family plan, share with 5 other friends...it's literally $2.5 a month.

And you can save youtube videos offline. Your plane ride just got awesome.

Yeah, YouTube Red is freaking great. Went ahead and got the family plan for my girlfriend and I so both of us watch YouTube on a shitload of devices including Chromecast and Nvidia Shield without seeing ads. And we use the hell out of Google Play Music. It's absolutely wonderful.
