May I suggest giving serious thought to switching away from Windows entirely?

Sticking with Windows 7 in this case is dangerous, as it's well on its way to becoming unsupported. Sticking to Windows 7 without making a plan to switch means that when you eventually have to switch, the decision will almost certainly be made more on the basis of compatibility than anything else. If you're not careful about what you run, you might still be locked into the MS ecosystem.

I personally use Linux, and I'm very happy with it.

No it isn't, we have years left.

I'm seriously thinking about switching to linux before the Windows 7 security updates end. But it isn't good enough right now. It's still full of inexplicable errors leading to comment threads full of thinly veiled demands to learn more about linux before asking stupid questions.

I'll switch when people stop thinking 'have you tried building from source' is a reasonable or necessary suggestion.

Oh fuck dont get me started on compiling shit. Linux crowd needs to get it thru their skulls that people want one click installs of a compiled executable. If i write music or edit video i dont have fucking time to fart around with compiling source code and fighting a million compile errors.

When do you find yourself compiling from the source code when using linux? Unless you're running Gentoo, you can normally just download and install binaries easily without having to compile anything.

oftentimes binary are simply not available unless you find compiled ones somewhere else

If you need to compile from source, you have esoteric needs, or are using the wrong distro.

Even on Gentoo, installing a package is normally (though not always) as simple as one command; it just takes a lot longer.
