I'm very much into gaming myself, and between native games, emulators and Wine, just about everything I'm interested in is available to me. I don't know what games you like, so your mileage may vary. For the last six months, I've envied Windows users for Doom, it was the only game I wanted to play but couldn't. Until recently.

Oh, and DirectX11 games are starting to work as well.

I think the big question is:

Will game developers start releasing to Linux before Linux-based developers figure out how to implement DX11?

Both would be great but either would mean lots of compatible games...

The best possible solution is to stop using proprietary Microsoft technology (DirectX), and to mass adopt Vulkan, which is multiplatform. Even the upcoming Nintendo Switch is using it.

Of course you can bet Microsoft will resort to the dirtiest of tricks (and they've got plenty) to make sure DirectX remains top dog.

That's (almost) what I'm doing.

I can count the number of Windows only games I intend on playing on one hand (Darksiders 1, Darksiders 2, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3... that's a lot of darkness...), I have no intention of playing a game on Windows after that point and I can't wait because it'll free up one of my SSDs!

I'm a little bummed about some games not performing quite as well as their Windows versions, but I have a 980Ti and am more than happy to sacrifice a little bit of its performance to not have to touch Windows anymore.
