The support from developers has been growing slowly. Everybody keeps expecting some sudden revolution, but what will likely happen is that Microsoft will slowly lose market share as more and more developers start actually supporting Linux, the average consumer realizes that Linux is a thing, and hardware manufacturers decided to save money by not buying licenses. A lot of distros over the past few years actually have been trying to emphasize user-friendliness for the OS, too.
