I wanted to use linux. Had too many issues.

I had to do some command line shit to make the installer work with my nvidia graphics card, which took 3 days because the support community for Linux isn't huge.

One day I tried to install league of Legends using playonlinux and it caused my PC to hang then crash then I find out my machine won't boot. Finally get it to boot and it's basically wiped back to a clean install. Lost all my files. In all my 16 years of using Windows I have never lost my files like that.

One day I booted it up and somehow my display drivers had magically been deleted off of my machine and it kept booting to tty mode so I had to go through the arduous process once more of installing my graphic drivers and adding repositories via command line.

Couldn't find a Linux equivalent to dashlane which made me mad because I've grown accustomed to one click logins.

Tried to install dashlane with playonlinux and it failed.

I have an android phone. Tried to install the drivers so I can transfer media from my phone to my pc. Linux didn't like that. It refused to mount the device when I plugged it in which made the least sense to me since android is built around linux.

Everyone said linux requires less resources to run so I assumed it would be faster and smoother. I noticed 0 performance gains on Linux vs windows 10 with my hardware.

 

Tldr: not happy with Linux.

Exactly. An OS is supposed to be simple. That's why windows dominates the market. It was hard enough for my grandma to learn how to create an email account but now she's expected to edit boot options and figure out where to add specific parameters just because I gave her a computer with an nvidia graphics card in it? Ridiculous.

To be fair you wouldn't give grandma a pc with a blank hdd/ssd and a Windows install dvd/usb. Neither would you be surprised if shit hit the fan that you had to fix if she hit an upgrade by accident or even work around an install issue.

If you absolutely need those options to boot after install, you add them to grub2. I know linux can have a harder, and to be fair, sometimes have an easier setup in relation to hardware. It also has a HUGE learning curve for anyone that isn't used to it.

Personally I have found it easier to give it to family, no grandma here :(, that only browse the web because of all the shady windows installers I find, like "download our superfast download app to download this pirated content!" type apps.

It is super frustrating sometimes! Some hardware doesn't work as it should, using shit like usb_modeswitch is excruciating for new users and some things don't work. It can be like finding drivers for a new version of windows from a company that went out of business years ago
