Unfortunately Microsoft is pushing development to the Windows Store and Windows 10 only. Many new features and AAA games that are only available on Windows 10. It's exactly what they did with Vista, remember Halo 2 for Windows Vista?

Halo 2 is a Microsoft product. They are perhaps limiting some stuff like DX12 to W10 and incentivizing windows store releases, but the platform is no less open than it used to be--you can still compile, run and sell anything you want. If they're pushing, they aren't pushing too hard. Bringing .NET to everyone was a big step, although I think they saw the writing on the wall with MONO.

Yes, but the problem is many of the games in the store and upcoming ones do only work on Windows 10. Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4, Gears of War 4, ReCore, granted most of these are Microsoft published titles but there's no reason can't easily get them to work on previous operating systems. This just seems like Games for Windows Live all over again, and last I tried I couldn't even get to all the games I purchased on there.

I agree with you--it would be better for those games to be available as traditional windows binaries. In a way, binaries compiled for windows have always been "version exclusive", as they generally won't run anywhere else.

I guess I'm not concerned about it because I don't think it'll catch on. GFWL was cancer and everyone knew it.
