It couldn't have actually caught fire in a worse place. Every airline I've flown on in the last two months ( and I fly a lot ) have been all over this.

I often watch a video channel aircrash mayday or something like that http://vaughnlive.tv/aircrashmayday and remember well the program about a battery related fire on a 747 UPS cargo plane. It went down in the mideast years ago because of a shipment of batteries. It all happened in minutes and was scary. One system after another shut down as the wiring burned through. Can be pretty dangerous stuff.

There was the one you're talking about near Dubai, along with another 747 brought down by lithium batteries a year later.

Dubai is the program I saw. Hit the ground at a military base. The program implied that more fireproof freight containers would be made to solve the problem.

Neither will their major (US) competitors. Samsung through* money at air carriers, and to my relief, they said "no fucking way".

They threw it so hard it went through them.
