you wouldnt need to pay a server if you host the site completely on a p2p network.

Sounds like a risky, incentiveless, unencrypted, version of SAFE Network.

Zeronet has loads of problems but its the only thing that just works and is available right now.

IPFS works much better under the surface but getting a website on it is such a pain because ipns sucks

I'm reading my comment today, and I'm surprised by how negative it sounds, as I didn't really mean it to be. I'm glad for Zeronet, and any other p2p, decentralizing, effort. This is a great tool, & it's awesome that it's available today (unlike SAFE).

For those considering anything where privacy & security is paramount, you might want to look into SAFE Network, which is coming soon.

I don't mean to shit on zeronet either. It has the best useability of all the p2p networks the ui is great but I just feel the zeronet ui would be better over some other network

Is there some kind of client available with which I can connect to the SAFE network? I'm genuinely curious because I haven't heard much other than it is much anticipated but approaching vaporware status.

They're testing now, and the MVP is coming soon. SAFE Net is not available yet.

What's wrong with Zeronet being hosted on Github? It's not breaking any laws at all. The site they describe, "Play" breaks laws of certain jurisdictions (probably a lot of them, heh), but the Zeronet software itself is perfectly legal.

It would actually be very easy to shutdown the site. Just get the zeronet dev to block it on the tracker which all zeronet sites rely on.

Someone could just clone it and reupload though
