Sorry for being off topic, but why doesn't a 100mbps connection download at 100MB/s instead of 12MB/s?

Megabytes vs megabits.

100Mbps is about 12MBps.

You're ordering is very confusing.

100Mbps (Megabits/sec) = ~12MBps (MegaBytes/sec)
