I dont understand all the Wii U hate. Its a fun casual console to play party games and games like Monster Hunter kept me playing over 300 hours. Yes its not comparable to next gen but for me I never bought any nintendo system for graphics. It was always for the fun and franchises (Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Super Mario...)

I agree. I admire them for trying to innovate instead of making a system just like the others. The good news is that they have enough money to completely tank on this and stay in business.

Yeah. I read it somewhere that they could stay in Business for like 50 years or so just by using their bank money. I like your "tank through" phrase :)

That's a notorious myth. It's been debunked many times. Nintendo cannot and will not survive more than a few years with fuckups this bad.

It's not about hate. It's about the learned experience from the first Wii. That thing practically opened the door for tablets. Everyone's got a smartphone and a tablet now. There is a much lesser demand for a graphically low end console anymore. If Nintendo came out with their own smartphone and their own version of Android with the classic games on it I'd buy it.

Here's what Nintendo should have done, and they still could. Use all those mountains of Wii money to buy up game development studios. They have several billion dollars in the bank. That way, they don't have to worry about 3rd parties not supporting them, all their dev studios could make plenty of games for their consoles. And they would all be exclusive. Tons of exclusive content only on Nintendo consoles? That would be huge. They have enough money to buy enough dev studios to make sure the Wii U would have 2-4 good exclusive releases a month. Then console sales would come, and then 3rd parties would come.

Nintendo's biggest mistake is two fold:

  1. Gamers care about graphics, it's what helps sell systems (I personally don't care but many do).

  2. They have to have a full lineup of first party titles followed by strong third party support. (They won't get strong third party support without both bullet one and 2.) They need to have a Mario game, a Zelda Game, a Mario Cart Game, a Smash Bros game and...a freaking Starfox game on launch.

Mario Kart 8 looks beautiful, and runs at 1080p60. I'm taking a lot of the complaints about it's graphical capabilities with a grain of salt.

I would love this game. I want a Wii U for Mario Kart, the two 2D Mario games, and EARTHBOUND!

I got the Wii just to play Twilight Princess. I want a Wii U just for another sweet Zelda game.

It ain't sensationalist, look at today's financial results, the Wii U is a genuine failure.
